Bonnar to Take on Anderson Silva at UFC 153
With UFC 153 losing its two main fights this week, Anderson Silva (32-4) has stepped up to fill the headliner role. The Spider will also step up to Light-Heavyweight once again – this time to face Stephan Bonnar (14-7), according to USA Today. The card takes place in Rio de Janeiro on October 13.
Following the withdrawal of Rampage Jackson and Jose Aldo, UFC 153 was hurting for a main event. The UFC shuffled its deck once again and came up with the most dominant fighter in UFC history against an aging The Ultimate Fighter 1 finalist.
Rampage Jackson’s opponent Glover Teixeira (18-2) received a new opponent as well today. He will face fellow Brazilian Fabio Maldonado (18-5).
Also announced for UFC 153 is a Heavyweight tilt between ‘Big Nog’ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-7-1) and Dave Herman (21-4).
Dana White, president of the UFC, told UFC Today,
“This is old-school UFC. A card is in jeopardy, but guys that are world champions and superstars stepped up and jumped in and saved the card. This is why the fans love this sport and why we went on a 12-year run without canceling an event.”
Jose Aldo’s opponent, Frankie Edgar, will be moved to a future card.
