MFC 34: Total Recall – Recap


The MFC held their 34th event last night at the Mayfield Trade Centre and despite a weight gaff that forced MFC officials to change their main event from a Lightweight Title Fight to a three round non-title affair, the event was a huge success for both the promotion and the fans. MFC President Mark Pavelich called the event “one of the best events he’s ever put on”.

Adam Lynn vs. Mukai Maromo
Round 1: Maromo opens with a hard leg kick followed by a right and another leg kick. Lynn responds and drops him with a solid right and gets into side control before Maromo can replace his full guard. Lynn looks for an arm triangle but Maromo has him locked down in his guard so Lynn can’t get the pressure he needs to finish. Lynn releases and passes to half guard and then side control before they get back to their feet. They tie up against the ropes briefly before separating and Maromo lands more vicious leg kicks. They again lock up in the corner but Lynn lands a low knee and they pause the action briefly. On the restart, both men trade shots before Lynn presses Maromo into the corner and lands little knees. Maromo fights his way out of the corner with a combo and just misses and jumping switch kick but lands a knee to the body. Round 2: Maromo lands another leg kick to open the second and follows up with a knee to the body. Lynn responds with a right and they tie up before Maromo breaks away and lands a combo followed by an uppercut and a flying knee that push Lynn into the corner. Maromo unleashes a flurry of massive elbows and Lynn calls Maromo on. Maromo obliges and lands another combo that sends Lynn retreating. Maromo connects with a head kick that dazes Lynn. Maromo connects with a right, secures the clinch and drives a huge knee right into the chin that sends Lynn crashing face down on the mat and Maromo walks away knowing that he’s done enough and the fight is over.

Joseph Henle vs. Luke Harris
Harris lands a combo followed by a head kick that just glances off the chin. Henle responds with a takedown but Harris is looking to lock up a guillotine choke but can’t get it under the chin and is forced to let it go. Henle is able to get to side control and then back to his feet. Henle connects with a kick to the body before landing a leg kick that puts Harris off balance. Henle goes in for the kill and drops Harris with a pair of stiff jabs before pouncing on top and finishing him with a few well placed rights that prompt referee Vern Gorman to step in and stop the fight. Post fight, it’s announced that Henle will meet Elvis Mutapcic for the Middleweight Title at MFC 35 in October.

Mike Hackert vs. Tim Hague
Hackert immediately begins landing three punch combos at will and mixes in a few body shots. Hackert lands a solid kick to the body and again connects with an accurate combo that causes Hague to turtle in the corner. Hackert unleashes a barrage of punches but Hague is able to recover and presses Hackert into the corner. The advantage is short lived for Hague who eats a knee and drops. Hackert takes advantage landing punches and knees to the body. Hague is finally able to get back to his feet but Hackert forces him into the corner and pounds away with punches and body shots. Hague is not offering any resistance and referee John Braak is forced to step in and call a halt to the bout cementing Hackert as the undisputed #1 Heavyweight in Canada.

Elvis Mutapcic vs. Jacen Flynn
Muatpcic lands a leg kick followed by a big right and a solid combo. Flynn bullies him against the ropes and ties him up in the corner where they jockey for position. Mutapcic drops him with a knee and begins to land shots and is able to unleash a barrage of huge rights that force referee Kyle Cardinal to step in and rescue Flynn from any further punishment.

Nick Hinchliffe vs. Dhiego Lima
Round 1: They feel each other out for the first minute until Hinchliffe lands an leg kick and falls short with an overhand right. Lima connects with a kick to the body and misses with a right. Lima lands a leg kick and Hinchliffe looks for a right. Hinchliffe lands an overhand right and Lima lands another leg kick before they trade punches. Lima with another leg kick and Hinchliffe again responds with a right. Lima sticks a left and they clash with leg kicks before Hinchliffe blocks a combo. Lima continues to assault the legs with kicks and Hinchliffe responds with one of his own. Lima lands another left followed by a combo. They both exchange shots as the round comes to an end. Round 2: Hinchliffe opens with an overhand right and Lima continues the pattern with a leg kick. Hinchliffe responds with a combo and Lima comes back with a solid combo of his own. Lima lands a right and another combo followed by a nice uppercut. Lima continues to chip away with accurate punches. Hinchliffe lands a leg kick and a combo before connecting with a body shot. Lima lands another combo and surprises Hinchliffe with a flying knee and a thunderous leg kick. Hinchliffe’s legs are really showing the effects of the leg kicks and Lima connects with more solid shots. Lima connects with a pair of jabs and Hinchliffe responds with a huge takedown out of nowhere, lands a few shots and kicks the legs for the final seconds of the round. Round 3: Lima lands a jab and keeps punishing the legs before connecting with a big right. They both exchange punches and Hinchliffe lands a hard right. Lima with another leg kick and Hinchliffe again responds with a right before blocking a head kick. Lima connects with a combo and more leg kicks. Hinchliffe connects with a right and a left before Lima comes back with a combo and another leg kick. Hinchliffe backs him into the ropes and lands a combo before Lima hammers him with another trio of leg kicks followed by another combo. Lima begins to call Hinchliffe on and he obliges with both men throwing heavy shots with bad intentions before the pace slows again. Lima looks to land another flying knee but Hinchliffe just avoids it but Lima lands some punches instead. Hinchliffe sticks a solid combo and Lima responds as they trade shots again. Hinchliffe looks for the last ditch effort to finish the fight but time expires. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Lima

Jason Zentgraf vs. Cody Krahn
Krahn fakes a pair of jabs followed by a keg kick and unleashes a combo. Zentgraf settles things down and ties Krahn up in the corner briefly before they break out of the corner. They both exchange punches and Krahn slips to the ground. Zentgraf takes the opportunity to jump on his back and looks to sink the choke. Krahn is quickly forced to tap out due to a bar-arm choke.

Dan Ring vs. Derek Boyle
The two clash with a pair of leg kicks before Boyle stuns Ring with a well placed right. Ring recovers briefly but Boyle stalks him and connects with a huge combo that see Ring out on his feet and referee Kyle Cardinal is forced to step in and call a halt to the bout.

Derek Parker vs. Paul Grandbois
Parker throws a leg kick and Grandbois catches it and they exchange shots before Grandbois lets go of the leg and lands a leg kick. They exchange heavy shots before Grandbois is able to get the upper with a combo. Parker comes back and drops him with a right and jumps on top looking to control the back. They return to their feet and Parker lands a leg kick and Grandbois responds with one of his own. Parker chases him into the corner and but can’t land anything significant. Parker is able to get the takedown and lands in full mount. Grandbois scrambles to his feet but Parker drags him back down to north/south position before taking his back and sinking the rear naked choke and forcing the tap out.

Lee Mein vs. Smealinho Rama
Rama opens with a leg kick followed by a kick to the body. Mein responds with a solid right and ties him up. Mein lands a knee before getting the hip toss takedown to side control. Rama lands a few shots from the bottom and Mein connects with one of his own before Rama escapes to his feet. Rama looks for a guillotine but Mein escapes but is bloodied as Rama lands another kick to the body. Rama connects with a nice combo against the ropes before tossing Mein to the ground. Rama pounces and lands shots before easily taking full mount and finishing the bout with a series of hammer fists.

    Again congrats to Hackert! And if Maromo is out there listening or his people are, you know you got a home in any of Canada’s premier organizations like AFC, Score and Instinct!
