Getting to Know… Adam Lorenz

Name: Adam Lorenz

Height: 5’10”

Walking Around Weight: 163-168.  It used to be 175 but I train too hard between fights for it to get that high anymore.

MMA Competition Weight Class: 145

Date of Birth: March 30th, 1985

City Born in: Regina, Saskatchewan. Born and raised north of Regina in Raymore, Saskatchewan.

City currently Residing in: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

First Job: Attendant at Last Mountain Co-op in Raymore, Sask.

Current Job: Teacher

First Car: 1995 GMC Sierra GT 4×4 shortbox stepside

Current Car: 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. I still have that truck but I can’t afford the gas…I borrowed this car from my parents and never gave it back. I’ll send them a check for it after I collect my first UFC bonus ;) haha!

Favorite Movie: American Psycho

Favorite TV Show: Spartacus, Game of Thrones, Dexter, True Blood, Carnivale, American Horror Story, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Boardwalk Empire.

Favorite Band/Singer: Corey Taylor. I grew up listening to bands like Slipknot, Manson, Killswitch Engage, Rammstein & White Zombie, but I now sing along to some of the songs on the pop music stations when I am alone in the car…nobody is allowed to find out.

Nickname, and how you got it: I don’t have one but it is funny when kids who I teach both at school and at the gym accidentally call me Sensei Adam instead of Mr. Lorenz in their classroom, it always elicits a funny reaction from the rest of the class.

MMA Team/Camp:Alliance Martial Art Systems

MMA Titles Held: Most handsome Featherweight…ok, I made that up.

Belts Attained in other Combat Sports: BJJ purple belt

Favorite UFC Fighter: Chael P. Sonnen & Brian Ebersole; they entertain me.

MMA Inspirations/Mentor/Idol: I was drawn to MMA by Wanderlei Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Joachim Hansen and Carlos Newton while I was a teenager. Now that I train and compete, I get my inspiration from my coach Graham Weenk and all my teammates (both from the other fighters and the guys who just train but help me get ready for fights).

First Martial Arts Memory: My first day at Alliance; how tired I got and how much I thought I should bounce up and down like a kangaroo while I was learning to strike haha!

First MMA Memory: Being completely exhausted within seconds of my first MMA fight; I remember holding onto an arm-triangle choke and really hoping that was going to end it. The nerves definitely get better with experience as I have since had 15 minute battles that I was less tired after.

Greatest MMA Moment to Date: The win over Rolando Perez was big for me because it let me know that I could compete against top guys and the win against Will Romero was great because it put me high into the Canadian top ten. However, my favorite moment is still winning the main event in Regina against Seiji Sugiman-Marangos; the place was packed with hometown support from Regina, Saskatoon and Raymore. It was really amazing competing in front of them all and sadly it was the last event in Saskatchewan that I was ever able to compete in again (but hopefully not the last!).

Funniest MMA Fighter that You Know: Kurt Southern and Tyson Steele, the best witty humour around.

Toughest MMA Competitors Encountered: Alvin Robertson, that needs no explanation haha! Obviously I’ve fought several other tough guys but the toughest guys I’ve met are the ones I train with like Southern, Steele, Robertson, Mark, etc who beat me up every day.

Most Memorable Finish: TKO body kick 3 seconds into round 2 vs Roland Delorme or Anaconda Choke of Drew Blight.

Cage or Ring: Cage. I fought in a ring once and the ropes interfere greatly with trying to lift your opponent for a slam.

Embarrassing MMA Memory:When I kept throwing up in my mouth for 3 rounds against Chase Holthe and he had to ask me after why I stunk so bad haha! I’ve never been so sick in my life as I was for that fight…but going 15 minutes in that state let me know that going three rounds healthy was never going to be an issue.

Funny MMA Memory: Mom giving me heck on my way out of the cage because I smiled during the fight; apparently she was very nervous the whole time and didn’t appreciate that haha!

Favorite MMA Move (finish/strike): The D’Arce choke. There is a reason that the man who it is named after follows me on Twitter haha!

Favorite Sport Outside of MMA: I wasn’t aware that there was any. Just kidding, but I honestly have no idea.

Favorite Food: All-you-can-eat sushi, ice cream, the home cooked meals I get when I visit my family back home.

Relationship status: I have a beautiful girlfriend named Sarita who puts up with me being in the gym the majority of the time that we are not both at work.

we tried setting that fight up twice now for Bully Fight Night and AFC in June when Bagshaw got hurt and Maruzs didn’t accept, at least that was what we were told…will he take it now? cuz Sept 15th AFC we need a match for Lorenz, Maruzs fight sounds good to me!
