Both fighters start throwing bombs again but Powell is throwing and landing a lot more then Joe is.  Powell pins Joe up against the cage and but Joe almost secures a trip takedown. These guys are really putting on a show for the fans tonight!

Joe Doerksen defeats Joel Powell by Guillotine Choke in Round 2, 3:25

Advin Omic vs. William Sriyapai couldn’t happen due to an issue with the commission receiving William’s medicals from California. Give the commission credit for giving the fighters the best chance they could by waiting until the last possible moment to cancel the fight. The AFC brought Advin into the cage so that he could thank all his fans for coming to see him fight and they promised him a fight with Derek Medler. We don’t know if the fight will happen in Calgary yet or not but it will be for the AFC Welterweight Title.

Craig Hudson vs. Smealinho Rama
Round 1: Craig opens the action with a nice leg kick. Both fighters are throwing bombs but nothing is connecting.  Rama catches a kick and pins Craig up against the cage. Craig manages to turn him back but lands a knee to Rama’s groin. The referee stops the action to allow Rama to recover. When the action resumes Rama throws an awesome head kick that connects then the fighters exchange spinning back fists that both miss their targets. Rama is moving really well now and is managing to avoid Craig’s attacks with his hands down. Rama lands another head kick but it doesn’t faze Craig. Rama drives forward again and pins Craig up against the cage but he lets him go. Craig is looking really tired.  Rama moves in again and secures a body lock which he uses to take Craig down. When Craig tries to get back up Rama takes his back and secures a rear naked choke.

Matt Knysh vs. Noah Ali
Round 1: The fighters start out tentatively. Noah lands a leg kick but both fighters are keeping their distance. Noah attempts a flying knee but Matt catches it and takes Noah down. Noah locks in a guillotine on the way down though and quickly secures the submission.
Noah Ali defeats Matt Knysh by Guillotine Choke in Round 1, 1:57

Jason Gorny vs. Mark Dobie
Round 1: Both fighters start out moving really fast in the cage and are throwing a lot of wild kicks.  The fighters clinch up and Mark drags Jason to his knees, spins around him and takes his back. Mark starts working for the rear naked choke right away and turns Jason belly up. Jason tries to defend but eventually Mark sinks in the choke and forces Jason to tap.
Mark Dobie defeats Jason Gorny by Rear Naked Choke in Round 1, 1:26

Amateur MMA
Hayden Harrison vs. Nathan Wilkins
Round 1: The fighters scramble and Trent gets the takedown but soon after Hayden starts working for a triangle from the bottom. Nathan picks up Hayden and scores a huge thundering slam but Harden doesn’t let go. Hayden starts working for an arm bar but Nathan slips out and escapes . The fighters clinch up again and Nathan pulls Hayden down to the mat landing in Hayden’s guard. This was a really close round.

Round 2:  Hayden lands a great flying knee to Nathan’s body and presses Nathan up against the cage. Hayden lands a great uppercut and starts firing off shots until Nathan lands a hard right hand of his own that backs Hayden off.  Nathan clinches up with Hayden and scores another takedown.  Nathan lets him back up though. Hayden lands a great right cross but pulls guard right after. I don’t know why because he was doing a lot of damage standing. Trent gets back up and lands two really hard straight lefts. Both fighters are landing a lot of punches. Another very close round.

Round 3: Nathan opens the round with a great leg kick but Hayden clinches up and starts landing a lot of knees to Nathan’s body that are scoring points but not doing a lot of damage. Hayden moves forward but Nathan lands a hard left hook that backs Hayden off. Hayden drives forward again pushing Nathan up against the cage working for a double leg takedown but Nathan is defending well. Nathan pulls guard with a triangle attempt and is close to locking it up. Hayden tries to stack Nathan but the choke just gets tighter and Hayden taps.
Nathan Wilkins defeats Hayden Harrison by Triangle Choke in Round 3, 2:49

Adam Wills vs. Trent House
Round 1: The fighters clinch agains the cage with Adam spending most of the time pinning Trent. Trent turns and escapes then starts pinning Adam against the cage. Trent is landing some hard knees to Adams body though. Adam secures a headlock on Trent standing then throws him to the ground but Trent gets back up quickly.  Adam is throwing really hard left straights but they aren’t landing flush. Both fighters are clinching up again and Adam manages to take Trent down but during the scramble takes Adam’s back as the round ends. This is a really close round.
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Trent House

Round 2: Trent rushes Adam and gets the takedown but it looks like Adam more or less pulled guard. The referee stands the fighters up due to inactivity.  Adam immediatly shoots but Trent stuffs the takedown attempt and lands a a great combination. Adam escapes by circling back the centre of the cage but Trent lands a crushing right hand that stuns Adam and allows Trent to get the takedown. Trent passes to mount and landing shots to Adams body before Adam pulls off an awesome sweep taking top position. Trent immediately starts working for an arm bar but can’t secure anything before the round ends.
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Trent House

Round 3: Both fighters look really fresh for round three. Adam lands a nice side kick to Trent’s body but Trent comes back with a couple of really hard shots.  Adam drives forward again and the referee stops the fight to check on Adam. I couldn’t hear what he was asking him though. Adam takes down Trent when the action resumes and starts working hard to pass Trent’s guard. Adam almost passes but allows Trent to stand up. Adam shoots again for the double leg and gets the takedown. Trent is working hard from the bottom for a triangle choke though. He locks it up, hooks Adams leg preventing the escape and forces Adam to tap.
Trent House defeats Adam Wills by Triangle Choke in Round 3, 2:44

Darcy McKenna vs. Mike Downey
Round 1: Mike Downey looks like a lot bigger so Darcy may have his work cut out for him.  Both fighters really move great on their feet for their size. Darcy drives Mike against the cage and secures the takedown. Mike turns quickly for an arm bar attempt from bottom but Darcy defends easily and passes to mount. It looks like Darcy is landing shots from mount before the referee stops the fight. I couldn’t see why the fight was stopped but Mike is complaining about an eye injury. The referee didn’t think it was a poke so it could have been his glove.
Darcy McKenna defeats Mike Downey by Verbal Tap in Round 1, 2:00
That was really an unfortunate ending to what looked like a great fight.

Chris Campbell vs. Chris Darula
Round 1: Darula opens up the action with a couple of hard knees to Campbell’s body before they scramble and Campbell drags Darula to the ground. Darula gets back to his feet and secures the Thai plum again and starts landing for the knees to the body. The fighters break and Darula lands a hard straight right to Campbell’s jaw. Darula attempts a standing guillotine but Cambell escapes and takes Darula down landing in his gaurd. Campbell lands a few shots to Darula’s body before Darula gets his legs up and starts working for a triangle choke. Darula doesn’t get close to finishing though before the round ends.
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Chris Darula

Round 2: Darula starts the round off with four or five great right hands and a couple of knees to Campbell’s body before Campbell comes back and lands a number of great right hands of his own. Darula attempts the standing guillotine again but lets it go. When he backs off Campbell looks woozy so Darula pounces on him forcing Campbell to pull guard. The action slows so referee Brian Beauchamp stands the fighters up. Darula’s knees to Campbell’s body look like they are really starting to pay off now becuase Campbell is slowing. Darula is getting the better of the stand up but Campbell is still landing shots as well. This is a great fight!
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Chris Darula

Round 3: The fighters open the round by exchanging leg kicks before Darula secures that Thai plum again and lands three hard knees to Campbell’s body. The fighters break and Darula goes back to the knees but Campbell defends well this time.  Darula moves in and lands a great one two combination. Darula is really the fresher fighter in round three. Darula lands a great combination that stuns Campbell but Campbell recovers and on instinct manages to take Darula down. Campbell starts creeping around to Darulas back but doesn’t get close to securing a submission before the round ends
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Chris Darula
Chris Darula defeats Chris Campbell by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Wow, great win for Rama taking on a much more experienced War Dog. That’s a big win for his second fight.

Sucks for Advin, I was really looking forward to him fighting. I’m not quite understanding the medicals though, why wouldn’t these of been caught waaaaay beforehand? The only reason he couldn’t compete medically is if he was injured or for some reason his vitals were taken and found to be way off the chart. Or…..dun dun dun…they found something wrong with the medicals submitted. Hope that’s not the case.

Sucks to see Gorny lose again. I was hoping with the change in scenery and camps, he would pull off a win.

Joel vs Joe… This was an awesome fight! Back and forth.. .. I thought Joel had it early…. and then Joe pulled it back. Literally back and forth five or so times. Huge punches being thrown. A stand up fight for the most part. And great wrestling when they hit the ground, whenever they didn’t defend with great technique. In the end Joe pulled off the win, but this was definitely the Fight Of The Night, in a night when all of the fights were awesome.

Congratulations to Joe. And With the Powell Borthers pulling off back to back FOTN awards in Calgary, they will always be welcome in the AFC.

  11. TK says:

This card exceeded my expectations. I really liked the venue and layout compared to the Winnipeg convention center. It was nice to be so close to the action.
The ammy rules were a little peculiar, but they seemed to encourage standup and made for entertaining fights. I’m a big fan of the 3 min rounds for lower-level fighters. I think even the pro undercards could use that format.
I hope the next card is stronger. I appreciate how tough the process is, but a few more fights would have made a much better night.
Congrats to El Dirte on a good win. I met him before the fight, and he is a well-spoken, intelligent man.
Calgary seems to have more than it’s fair share of posers. We were seated by some supposed “fighters” from Champions Creed, and they significantly detracted from my fight experience.

I thought Omic was dropping to LW? I’d love to fight him at 170 if he’s staying there.

  14. Advin Omic says:

Cody i coulda used you last night! But I think that would be a sick match up, much respect. Get Moin with AFC to set it up because Medler might be waiting I’ve heard he’s busy with life and id rather not wait if I have to. We can do it 8 weeks from now at the soonest. Let’s get payed I’m down! (side note MFC president said I will never fight for them so that’s out of the question.)

  18. Advin Omic says:

Sorry but I’d rather not get into politics over the interwebs, I already say too much at times. It’s all good tho, AFC will be holding many events and will entertain many fans, as well as all other local promoters who push Canadian talent!

  19. Mighty Mouse says:

You’re a class act for taking the higher road Advin but let me say this. If this has anything to do with your “nickname” and Pavelich’s background (ethnicity) than he’s a lowlife for making that an issue. I’m not saying that is the issue and I’m not baiting a response, I’m just saying that’s the only thing that comes to mind!

I apologize for asking, I too have a feeling I know the answer. I will never follow the mfc if that’s the case.
