Aggression Fighting Championships held their second show since the huge merger last night at the Shaw Conference Centre. Despite a card lacking  in big names they put on quite a show and made a few new stars. In the main event Stephen Beaumont narrowly defeated a very tough Evan Sanguin in a back and forth affair to capture the Lightweight Title.

Stephen Beaumont vs. Evan Sanquin
Round 1: Beaumont stares intensely across the cage as he paces, waiting for the opening bell. Beaumont opens with a big overhand right and a takedown attempt. Sanguin defends and Beaumont is unable to get him to the mat. Sanguin gets back to vertical and avoids a slam. Beaumont throws a wild right and lands a push kick. Beaumont shoots in for a takedown and gets caught in a guillotine. Beaumont escapes and looks for another takedown and Sanguin again tries for the guillotine, to half guard. Beaumont reverses and stands before attempting a single leg takedown. Beaumont fires a pair of back elbows and keeps working for the single. Round 2: Beaumont lands a combo and drives Sanguin into the cage looking for a takedown and finds it. Beaumont lands some rights and body shots before Sanguin tries to stand. Beaumont keeps him down briefly but Sanguin is finally able to get back to his feet. Beaumont drags him back down but again Sanguin pops back up but eats a knee this time. Beaumont completes another takedown, this time landing in half guard. Sanguin lands little shots from the bottom and replaces his guard. Beaumont stands and lands shots before taking the back and getting Sanguin back down. Beaumont lands knees to the body and Sanguin stands. Beaumont takes the back on the feet and knees the legs. Sanguin reverses and looks for a guillotine but can’t finish and Beaumont escapes and gets the takedown in the final seconds. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Beaumont

Round 3: Sanguin lands some leg kicks followed by some jabs and a big right hand. Beaumont responds with some shots of his own and Sanguin comes right back with a combo and body shots. Beaumont looks for a single and Sanguin defends. Beaumont looks to roll through for the takedown but Sanguin lands on top. Beaumont works back to his feet but eats a knee in the process. Beaumont looks for another takedown against the cage and knees the legs. Beaumont can’t get him down and referee Vern Gorman breaks them up. Sanguin connects with a jab and a right before throwing a combo that falls just short. Sanguin throws a head kick that glances off and follows up with a right, left combo and another head kick. Sanguin unleashes a big flurry and Beaumont responds. Sanguin kicks to the body and Beaumont takes a big deep breath. Sanguin lands a pair of leg kicks and Beaumont responds with a combo. Round 4: Sanguin connects with a shot and Beaumont comes right back with a combo. Sanguin jabs and kicks the leg before falling short with a sequence of punches. Beaumont lands a body shot and a combo before looking to take the fight back down. Beaumont gets him to his butt against the cage but can’t get him on his back and Sanguin uses the cage to stand. Beaumont scoops him up and gets the huge slam to full guard. Beaumont lands a solid right and Sanguin scoots and gets his back to the cage. Beaumont lands body shots and elbows before Sanguin is able to wall walk back up to his feet. Beaumont gets the back and lands some big shots and knees to the legs. Round 5: Sanguin lands a leg kick and and Beaumont responds with a big right that sends Sanguin reeling. Beaumont chases Sanguin looking to land more shots but Sanguin is able to stay out of range for the most part. Sanguin lands a flying knee that slows the Beaumont onslaught. Sanguin unleashes a combo against the cage followed by a leg kick. Beaumont lands a glancing head kick and Sanguin responds with a right followed by a leg kick and Beaumont lands a right of his own before landing a low blow. Gorman calls for time and Sanguin takes a few minutes to recover. On the restart Sanguin lands a few jabs and Beaumont falls short with a head kick but lands a leg kick. Sanguin sticks a jab and Beaumont connects with a right before tying up against the cage and looking for another takedown. Sanguin concedes the takedown and looks for a guiolltine before letting go. Sanguin stands back up and Beaumont slips as he stands. Sanguin looks to land a shot but Beaumont is able to get back up. Beaumont gets another takedown and works the body. Tim Chemelli vs. Simon Marini
They feel each other out to start before Chemelli lands a pair of leg kicks followed by double jab. Chemelli finds the mark with a side kick and Marini responds with a jab. Chemelli lands a solid left and Marini connects with a leg kick and Marini comes back with a couple of his own. Marini is throwing shots but with the reach disadvantage he’s having trouble finding his range. Marini finally finds it and connects with a combo and a leg kick. Chemelli lands a left followed by a leg kick and Marini responds with some leg kicks of his own. Both men trade heavy shots with neither gaining the advantage. Chemelli lands a combo and Marini connects on a flurry in the corner. Chemelli fights off the cage and lands a few shots himself. Referee John Braak pauses to replace the mouth guard of Marini and Chemelli sticks a jab on the restart. A high kick from Marini is blocked as the round comes to an end. Round 2: Chemelli paws with jabs and Marini responds with a jab followed by a combo. Chemelli connects with a left, right and a leg kick followed by a quick flurry against the cage and a leg kick for punctuation. Marini lands a leg kick and a right hand before eating a jab from Chemelli followed by another big one-two and a leg kick. Chemelli sticks another jab and Marini connects with a few before Chemelli lands another side kick and a combo on the cage. Chemelli lands a body kick and they trade shots before another side kick lands for Chemelli. Marini lands a leg kick and Chemelli hits him with a right. Round 3: Chemelli fires off yet another leg kick and Marini connects with a right followed by a combo and another. Chemelli responds and lands a hard right, left combo and a leg kick. Chemelli connects with another hard right and Marini responds with a left. Chemelli lands a low leg kick and Marini comes back with a leg kick of his own. Chemelli connects with a pair of shots and gets the clinch where he lands a knee followed by another right. Marini lands a left and Chemelli with another leg kick before Marini connects with a combo. Chemelli repsponds and lands body shots against the cage. Chemelli continues to chip away with little shots. Marini lands a leg kick and a body shot followed by a combo. Chemelli sticks a hard jab and a left followed by a side kick. Both clinch and dirty box before the 10 second warning triggers a huge exchange of hard punches with both looking for a late stoppage but time runs out and they go to the scorecards. Tim Chemelli defeats Simon Marini by Unanimous Decision (30-27 x2, 29-28)

Zach Blaber vs. Andrew Buckland
During the instructions, Buckland gets right in Blaber’s face and referee Vern Gorman pushes him back. Blaber looks to land shots and connects with a powerful shot that drops Buckland to all fours. Blaber is relentless and lands about half a dozen rights before Gorman can step in and rescue Buckland, giving Blaber the impressive victory and extending his winning streak to six straight.

Deven Jones vs. Tito Jones
Tito lands a pair of leg kicks followed by a monster right that puts Deven out cold and on the mat. Tito looks to land a couple more but referee John Braak is already on his way in to call the fight off.

Robbie Merrill vs. Joe Keesick
Keesick lands a leg kick followed by a hard kick that is partially blocked. Merrill clinches but Keesick is able to take him down and latches onto the leg of Merrill. Keesick passes the leg and drops to side control before Merrill looks to stand. Keesick catches him in a guillotine and it looks deep but Merrill front flips his way out and they get back to their feet. They both exchange punches and Keesick lands a leg kick followed by a head kick that falls short. Merrill looks to land punches but Keesick avoids and catches him with a pair of shots himself. Merrill presses him into the cage and knees the legs before getting the takedown. Kessick pops right back to his feet only to have Merrill take his back and sink the rear naked choke. Merrill is able to force the tapout despite not having either of his hooks in.

Mike Newton vs. Adrian Cardinal
Newton lands a thudding leg kick followed by a big double leg takedown to side control. Cardinal wraps up a guillotine but is in no position to finish it and Newton bides his time and lets Cardinal burn his arms out. Newton finally begins to hammer the ribs and pulls his head free. Newton easily takes the back and sinks the rear naked choke forcing the quick tap from Cardinal.

Nick Dragich vs. Michael Swimmer
Swimmer lands a leg kick and Dragich responds with a right. They both trade shots and Swimmer connects with a solid one before Dragich scoops him up with a high crotch and dumps him to the mat in side control. Swimmer hangs on and Dragich lands a shot before Swimmer gives up his back. Dragich pounds away on the body and Dragich moves to north/south before standing and immediately landing a pair of big shots that drop Swimmer to a knee. Dragich fires off another hard right that forces referee Vern Gorman to step in and call the fight.

KB Bhullar vs. Ben Snyder
Snyder launches a wild flying kick that doesn’t even come close and looks for a combo that also misses it’s mark. They feel each other out before trading a few shots. Snyder lands a kick to the body and Bhullar catches it and uses it to dump Snyder to the mat, landing in full guard briefly before they stand. Bhullar connects with a jab and Snyder responds. Bhullar lands a leg kick and a hard left. They circle for a brief period before Snyder pounds the mat with both hands and screams “LET’S GO”. Bhullar obliges him and connects with a head kick that drops Snyder and finishes him off with a couple extra punches that put Snyder to sleep sending the full section of Bhullar fans into a frenzy.

TJ Penner vs. Nick Heynen
Round 1: The two men tie up and Heynen begins to tee off before pressing Penner into the cage. Penner lands a knee and Heynen secures the takedown to half guard where he lands some short elbows. Penner looks to work for a kimura but Heynen defends. Penner lands elbows from the bottom and Heynen lands some shots of his own. Heynen continues to connect with shots from the top followed by a big elbow and some more ground and pound and another elbow. Heynen stands up out of the guard and drops another shot and more elbows. Penner looks for an armbar but Heynen pulls his arm free and connects with more ground and pound. Penner tries for a guillotine but time runs out in the round. Round 2: Heynen starts out with a solid combo and knees followed by some leg kicks. Heynen gets the clinch and lands some knees against the cage. Penner concedes a takedown and Heynen briefly takes the back before Penner gets back up and looks for a single. Heynen bullies Penner down into half guard and hits hit with some short elbows. Heynen postures up and lands some punches and Penner has been bloodied up. Penner turtles and Heynen pounds away with some hammerfists. Heynen continues to land big lefts and looks to finish with a rear naked choke as the round comes to a close. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Heynen

Round 3: Penner looks to land shots but Heynen is the one to gain the advantage landing solid combos and a knee. Heynen throws a spinning back kick but it doesn’t connect with much power. Heynen still landing at will with another combo and Penner responds with some jabs. Heynen again landing shots and another knee before shooting for a single to half guard. Penner claps the ears and replaces his guard before connecting with some more shots. Heynen stands and Penner lazily looks to stand himself but Penner sees an opportunity and drops a huge right and takes his back. Heynen continues to chip away with punches and they briefly get back to their feet before Heynen secures another takedown. Heynen rides the back and lands some shots for the remaining seconds of the round. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Heynen
