Elite 1 Welterweight Title Fight Scratched as Meneka Weva Goes AWOL
Top MMA News has learned that the Elite 1 MMA Welterweight title fight between Richard Arsenault (6-1) and Meneka Weva (2-5) has been pulled from the card. The reason? Meneka Weva did not show up for weigh-ins.
Elite 1 MMA owner Mike Williams tried to contact Weva by phone and through mutual friends, but no one was able to contact the Welterweight challenger.
Weva had previously fought Arsenault in his last fight and he was submitted in the second round of that match. However, Weva was ill during the fight and was promised a rematch for the title.
After weigh-ins yesterday, Elite 1 MMA scrambled to find a new opponent for Arsenault and managed to dig up Gary Brown. Brown is 2-0 as an amateur and has not fought as a professional. The Arsenault vs Brown matchup will no longer be for the title and will be fought at 175lbs.
Elite 1 MMA has indicated that Meneka Weva will never fight for their organization again.
Top MMA News has tried to contact Meneka Weva, but has not received a response at the time of this posting.
Update May 7 2pm: Meneka Weva provided this statement to Top MMA News:
“I was hospitalized all week due to serious medical issues”
clown town
Meneka Weva (2-5) THE VILLAGE IDIOT
Gary Brown isn’t 2-0 as an amateur, he is 1-1.
Weva is a wanna be. He’s street tough but just another tough guy that doesn’t train enough to be a professional. I feel bad for Williams because he didn’t even wanna make this fight happen to begin with.
Brown has balls for taking the fight but what commission allows this fight?
Really interested to see Arsenault get a real test, I think he’s a good fighter and would like to see how he’s progressed.
Well-loved!

I went to high school with Gary Brown(a bit of useless knowledge for ya GO GREYHOUNDS!)
Strange indeed that the commission would allow an amateur to take his first pro fight against the top title contender…???
Mad props to Gary Brown for taking on rich on 1 nights sleep. Brown is apparently fighting ammy at the next Cage Rage?? I just want to know how you go ammy, fight a regional champ pro, then back to ammy??
I think you can have 1 pro fight and still go back to ammy …. lots have anyways.
maybe this is why he was a no show:
During the evening of January 11, 2011, the Codiac Regional RCMP Street Crime Unit arrested two men on a variety of serious charges.
A 32-year-old man was arrested in Dieppe and a 36-year-old man was arrested in Moncton a short time later. Both are from the Moncton area.
The 32-year-old ,Michael Symes, faces charges of forcible confinement, extortion, assault, death threats.
The 36-year-old, Meneka Weva faces charges of forcible confinement, extortion, sexual assault, death threats, mischief and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The charges stem from several incidents alleged to have occurred against a Moncton-area woman between September 1 and December 3, 2010.
