Carvalho Meets Roop at UFC 149

Antonio Carvalho’s sophomore effort in the octagon will be another stern test as he takes on George Roop at UFC 149 in Calgary on July 21.

Carvalho, Canada’s number 2 ranked Featherweight, will be looking to bounce back after a tough decision loss to Felipe Arantes at UFC 142. Prior to his UFC 142 outing “Pato” was riding a 3 fight win streak since returning from a 2 year hiatus from competition. A legend in the sport Carvalho holds victories over many of the sports toughest Featherweights including Takeshi Inoue, Rumina Sato and Hatsu Hioki. With Roops’ love of the stand up game and Carvalho love of kickboxing this should prove to be an entertaining affair.

Roop like Carvalho will be looking to rebound after a tough 4 fight stretch where he was only able to secure 1 win albeit a highlight reel KO over then contender Josh Grispi. Since coming off TUF 8, Roop has been active in UFC competition with mixed results going 2-5 in the big league and 1-1-1 in WEC. Most recently Roop has suffered back to back losses to the aforementioned Hioki and Cub Swanson but in facing Carvalho he has a chance to recapture some of his former glory.

UFC 149 kicks off July 21 in Calgary, Alberta from the gorgeous Scotiabank Saddledome. Carvalho joins fellow Canadians Nick Ring, Mitch Gagnon and Mitch Clarke.
