Fight of the night: Mic Dufort vs. Kyle Nelson
Submission of the night: Vladimir Starcencov with an americana keylock
Knockout of the night: None were awarded due to an absence of knockouts or technical knockouts.

Eric Barrack vs. Paul Cheng (HW)

Rd. 1
The fight starts and both juggernauts charge each other like rhinos. Cheng bullies Barrack to the canvas and uses some choice ground and pound to soften up the French-Canadian boxer. Barrack ties Cheng up and throws some knees to Cheng’s head which is an illegal move that goes unnoticed by tonight’s sub-par referee. Suddenly, the referee stops the fight and Cheng is declared the winner. Barrack apparently signalled to the referee that he had had enough and called an end to his misery.

Eric Barrack announces to the crowd that this is his last MMA fight.

Mike Ricci vs. Tony Hervey (155lbs)
Rd. 1

Hervey goes for a leg kick but Ricci power double legs Hervey to the ground. Ricci secures his opponent against the fence and throws some punches before attempting to take Hervey’s back by sinking in a first hook. Ricci lets go of trying to get his second hook in to favor his strikes but the Detroit native gets back up to his feet and now Ricci’s back is against the fence with Hervey looking for underhooks. Ricci spins away and lands a few knees into his opponent’s body. The second set of knees are landing with more vigor and Ricci switches to a bodylock takedown and Ricci is striking on his opponent. An unusual event occurs as one lightbulbs from the spotlights above the ring explodes, sending shattered glass inside the ring. The referee takes notice of it and calls for a temporary break. Janitors are called to enter the ring and they frantically sweep the glass away giving the fighters a few minutes to recover. Sensing that brooms aren’t enough to secure the arena from the hazards of shattered glass, the equipment is then upgraded to a vacuum cleaner in hopes that we can secure a safe workspace for our dear fighters. Ricci is pacing back and forth and cannot wait to get back to the fight while Hervey is sporting a look of disbelief as he is seemingly unimpressed by what is happening. Finally, after a brief 7 minutes of instense room service, the fight ensues but Hervey refuses to get back on his back and uses some choice words towards Ricci as he accuses Ricci of poking him in the eye before the break. Ricci agrees to start the fight from a standing position and lands a right cross before diving in for a double leg but the round comes to an end. Hervey rubs his eye as he returns to his corner.

Rd. 2
The round starts with more piss and vinegar as Ricci violently dashes forward for a takedown and takes the American down with relative ease. Ricci establishes half guard and lands 3 decent punches to Hervey’s noggin before the latter regains guard. Ricci gets half guard once again and connects with a few more punches. Hervey desperately trying to stand back up but Ricci staying heavy from the top. Firas calling for some elbows but Ricci chooses to get side control As Ricci looks for the mount, Hervey is able to temporarily stand back up forcing a scramble in which Hervey gets top position. Ricci working his guard with thirty seconds left and secures a tight triangle choke. Unfortunately for the tristar fighter, the round comes to an end.

Rd. 3
The round starts and similarly to the previous two, Ricci decides to take his opponent down to the canvas. Ricci now in Hervey’s guard and delivers some short punches to the head and body. Ricci now in half guard but regains his guard shortly after with half of the round left. Ricci desperately looking to pass into a better position but the Detroit native is having none of it. Hervey nearly gets back up but Ricci dives into Hervey once more and immediately establishes side control and then mounts his opponent. Ricci with one minute left and misses taking his opponent’s back when given the opportunity and they’re back into Hervey’s guard where both fighters remain as the round expires.

All three judges score the fight 30-27 for the winner by unanimous decision, Mike Ricci.

Kevin Morin vs. Stephane Lamarche (160lbs)
Rd. 1

Morin with an outside leg kick and rushes in to bully his opponent against the cage. From there, the Team Legion fighter secures a takedown and works to improve his half guard position. Morin achieves side control but the wily Lamarche kicks himself off the cage and back onto his feet. That is short celebrated as Morin takes Lamarche down once again. Lamarche gets a hold of Morin’s arm and attempts a kimura but Morin already established side control and is out of danger. Lamarche does manage to muscle his way back up to his feet but the Victoriaville native isn’t giving his adversary an inch and punishes him with knees to the body and thigh. Morin has Lamarche’s back and the latter is looking to spin away and lock a kimura. Morin manages to get his opponent to the canvas once again and Lamarche let go of the kimura as his opponent passes to half guard. Morin looking to pass to side control but Lamarche pops back up by timing the transition as the round comes to an end.

Rd. 2
The fighters exchange a few shots from the pocket but nothing lands. Morin presses Lamarche up against the fence, threatening him with a single leg takedown and gets it. Lamarche demonstrates his ability to pop back up but Morin looks for the anaconda choke when his opponent is on his knee. Morin spins onto his back in hopes of tightening the choke but loses it in the process. Luckily for him, a scramble ensues in which he regains an advantageous position by obtaining mount and then back control. Morin tries to secure a rear naked choke but the process is laborious for him as Lamarche annoys his adversary with backwards short punches. This seems to work as Lamarche spins into Morin and both are in the Team Legion fighter’s guard. Morin pushes Lamarche away with his legs and gets up but the Ottawa native dives in in hopes of taking Morin down. Morin reverses this trend by getting out of the threat and attacking with his own double leg. Morin forces the takedown and both are now in Lamarche’s guard with twenty seconds left in the second stanza. Morin cannot do more than a few short punches as his opponent is keeping him from posturing which ends with the expiration of the round.

Rd. 3
Morin once again looking to take Lamarche down by pouncing forward for a double leg takedown. Lamarche decides to attempt the guillotine choke and sits into it but the veteran Morin promptly defends it. Lamarche deciding to get crafty with his guard and throws his hips up and threatens Morin with an armbar, and while it looked like it could lead to something, Morin manages to get out of harm’s way. Morin now improving his position to half guard and then side control but Lamarche regains half guard. This fight surprisingly turning into a grapple fest as we see Morin regaining side control with two minutes left. Lamarche tries to get up but ends up giving his back where Morin jumps on it and establishes his hooks. Morin going for the rear naked choke but Lamarche again throws punches his his position. When it looks as though Morin can finish the choke, Lamarche ends up peeling one hand off of the choke and prolongs his life in the fight. Morin with a good looking rear naked choke but it appears to be on the chin. Lamarche manages to spin into Morin’s guard and goes for an immediate hail mary of a bomb but is forced to restrain himself as the air horn sounds the end of the third round.

Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Daniel Ireland (155lbs)
Rd. 1

Both fighters establishing their range. Aubin-Mercier ties Ireland up against the fence and the judoka trips his opponent to the ground but Ireland gets back up. That is short lived as Aubin-Mercier once again gets his opponent to the canvas with another judo takedown and establishes side control. Aubin-Mercier then mounts his opponent who gives up his back. The French-Canadian celebrates St-Patrick’s day by choking Ireland out with a rear naked choke at 1:10 of round 1.

Yohan Gariepy vs. Christ Franck (170lbs)
Rd. 1

Gariepy with an inside leg kick that can be heard throughout the metropolis center to start things off. Franck looking to return the favor with his inside leg kick of his own but hits nothing but air. Both fighters seem tentative but Franck connects with an outside leg kick which the slap also resonates throughout.Franck looking more engaging as he initiates the kicks where Gariepy prefers to counter. Garipey with a right head kick that grazes his opponent’s head and Franck barely misses with his own in return. Both fighters pressed against the cage and fighting for underhooks. Gariepy nearly securing the single leg takedown but cannot seem to complete it. Franck props his opponent back up and presses him against the cage. Franck with a body lock takedown and in Gariepy’s guard. Franck unable to do anything from that position as the round comes to an end. Close but uneventful round.

Rd. 2

Gariepy attempts an inside leg kick that has Franck grimacing in pain as the foot landed on the groin. After a brief moment the fight ensues. Gariepy with a haymaker but it doesn’t land. Franck with a body kick and right cross combination has Gariepy backing up and Franck pounces on him to take him down. Franck improving his position to half guard and connects with a short elbow but the GAMMA student decides to stand back up. The fight is now back up and Gariepy immediately looking for a takedown and gets it. Gariepy now in side control but Franck uses the fence to push himself off of it and reverses Gariepy. Franck now in half guard and postures unleashing some quality ground and pound. The pro Gariepy crowd is screaming for their fighter to get out of it and he manages to survive the round as it comes to an end.

Rd. 3

Franck with a right body kick and cross combination to start off the round but they don’t land. Both fighters losing steam and are looking tentative and taking deep breaths as it seems difficult for them to string together combinations as expressed through their hesitation. Gariepy with a decent inside leg kick and catches Franck coming in and single legs him to the ground. Gariepy working the half guard but Frank looking for a kimura. Gariepy holds onto his shorts but the referee Philippe Chariter doesn’t see it. As a result, Franck lets go of the hold and Gariepy moves into mount. Franck gives his back and Gariepy looking for the choke but forgets to secure his position allowing Franck to reverse him. Both fighters in Gariepy’s guard who is doing nothing but holding onto his opponent as the round comes to an end.

Vladimir Starcencov vs. Stephane Tessier (265lbs)
Rd. 1

Tessier pumping his jab into Starcencov’s face but the russian ties his opponent up and slams him to the canvas wth a judo throw. Tessier looking like a fish out of water as he turns away from his opponent from side control. Starcencov looking for the americana but Tessier able to muscle out of it. The russian looking for a second americana that is close to popping his opponent’s shoulder but he gives it up in favor of the mount. Starcencov unleashing some furious ground and pound but Tessier is simply covering up and not looking to shrimp himself into a better position. The russian goes for a final americana/keylock and the third time’s a charm as Tessier taps out. Tessier is holding his elbow as he gets up indicating that it is injured.

Dave Pariseau vs. Louis-Christophe Laurin (155lbs)
Rd. 1
Pariseau with a right leg kick to start off the bout and follows it up with a right head kick that is promptly blocked. Another right head kick from Pariseau has his opponent backpeddling and falls to the ground. Pariseau pounces on him and improves from half guard to side control but Laurin regains butterfly guard. Pariseau once again passes to side mount and hits Laurin with some short elbows to the temple. Laurin catches his opponent as Pariseau tried to mount and reverses him. Both are in Pariseau’s guard where the Victoriaville native sporting a high guard for an armbar. Laurin defends and launches two right hands.Pariseau manages to stand back up and Laurin looking for a guillotine and sits back in his guard. The choke wasn’t tight as Pariseau picks Laurin up and slams him to the canvas to escape it. The round ends with Pariseau on top throwing a combination of elbows and short punches.

Rd. 2
Pariseau catches Laurin’s kick and muscles him to the ground and into side mount. Laurin displaying sound grappling of his own as he reverses Pariseau and is now the one on top in side control. Pariseau with the underhook manages to stand up and almost takes his opponent’s back in a scramble but ends up on his back once again. Pariseau looking for an armbar but Laurin defends. Laurin then catches Pariseau’s leg and looks for the heel hook. The crowd senses the submission could be close but Pariseau never feels he’s in danger. Laurin isn’t giving up the ankle that easily and is constantly looking to improve his grip. Pariseau slides his leg out and ends up taking Laurin’s back in a scramble where he unleashes some punches. A series of reversals sees Pariseau ending up in side control and then mount with thirty seconds to go in the round. Laurin soundly ties Pariseau up keeping him from posturing to inflict further damage and expires the clock.

The round starts with Pariseau successfully diving in for a double leg takedown and in his opponent’s half guard but Laurin places him back into guard. Laurin locking up the Victoriaville native hoping for a stand up from the ref but the referee doesn’t seem too anxious to see it through. Pariseau with some short elbows and short punches that don’t inflict much damage. Pariseau able to posture up for a decent right hand but that’s all he can really do. Laurin down on the scoresheets and tries to stand back up but Pariseau secures his back. Pariseau with a rear naked choke attempt that isn’t secured and Laurin dumps Pariseau forward where the latter immediatley looking for an armbar. The attempt falls short and Pariseau again back on top after an ensuing scramble. The round comes to an end with the fight going the distance once again.

Mic Dufort vs. Kyle Nelson (155lbs)
Rd. 1
Dufort circling to avoid Nelson’s right hand and throws a right head kick to set up a takedown attempt. Nelson catches him with a tight guillotine. Dufort muscles him to the ground where a scramble ensues and ends up in a tight triangle choke but once again fights off the submission attempt. Nelson catches the French Canadian with an uppercut and throws a few knees for good measure. Dufort looks rocked but is displaying the willingness to stay in the game. Nelson with a left head kick that lands clean that has Dufort backing up. Dufort eating more shots and his legs look wobbly but manages to stay alive. Nelson lunges in for a second guillotine attempt but once again the French Canadian survives. The round comes to an end and Dufort’s legs can barely keep him up and his nose looks banged up.

Rd. 2
Dufort starts the round off wobbly but is reminded that he is in a fight when he eats his first right hand that has him on the ground and is now working his guard. Dufort looking for a pendulum sweep which ends up in a scramble and is now mounting Nelson. Dufort landing hammer fists and looking for chokes when his opponent gives him his side but Nelson fights back up to his feet. Dufort is showing an incredible heart and no longer looks likehe’s in bad shape and even lands a front kick to his opponent’s face but Nelson retaliates with a right cross. Nelson throws a haymaker but misses and ends up on the ground. Dufort has his opponent mounted and landing some quality shots. Nelson gives up his back and Dufort is working for the rear naked choke but is a little high up and is in danger of being dumped forward. He manages to maintain his position but is unable to get the choke before the round comes to an end.

Dufort looking just as fresh as in the first round but a knee graze his chin as he was looking to clinch with his opponent. Dufort circling and throwing the jab but Nelson doesn’t seem phased as he is on the winning end of most exchanges due to his crisper technique and longer range. Dufort eats another thunderous right leg head kick but shakes it off as though it was nothing. Nelson with a right leg kick and jab combo before Dufort shoots in for a double which finishes in both fighters against the fence. Dufort holding onto a single but falls on the ground, gets up and eats several right hands as he backs up but miraculously doesn’t look phased. Nelson throwing everything and the kitchen sink but can’t seem to seal the deal as Dufort looks like he is made of iron. Both fighters slugging it out in the pocket. Dufort’s face is marred with blood and eats several jab-cross combinations before diving in for a double leg takedown which is stuff as the round comes to an end.
