Kaufman Meets Davis in All Canadian Matchup For Strikeforce

Sarah Kaufman

Well it wasn’t the title shot she was hoping for… Former Olympic Jukoka Ronda Rousey leap frogged Kaufman to get the first crack at current champ Meisha Tate and Kaufman will instead have to settle for what is likely to be a number one contender bout against fellow Canadian Alexis Davis at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier in March.

Kaufman will enter the bout coming off a pair of wins over Liz Carmouche and Megumi Yabushita in 2011 following her first career loss where she dropped her Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Title to Marloes Coenen. Kaufman previously fought Alexis Davis who was making her professional debut at the time back in 2007, Kaufman stopped Davis with punches in the third round.

Alexis Davis has won three straight bouts including wins over Tonya Evinger, Julie Kedzie and most recently put a stop to the quick rise of Brazilian newcomer Amanda Nunes when she stopped her with a barrage of punches in the second round of their September meeting.

Don’t you think it makes more sense for Davis to fight Rousey and Kaufman to fight Tate? I guess sex does still sell!

I read that Alexis Davis thinks it’s because Strikeforce doesn’t want 2 canadians fighting for the championship

Kaufman has earned it, but rousey and tate are much better looking, so the gods have spoken.
