just my opinion and as usual it really dont mean all that much but here are a few things that come to mind on this topic.

    – if you dont like it on your back learn to get up or find a girl who will lay on her back for you

    – learn how to take he /she down to her back before he/she gets you on yours

    – learn how to inflict enough damage to make he/she not want to be laying on you and cuddling

    – hold on for dear life as theoretically speaking the ref should stand up after extended cuddling (even small shots as long as there being thrown should not be stopped as it is active and is winning rounds) if you cannot hold on tight then see point 1, 2 or 3

    – if you dont wanna be on back and your opponent is laying on you to be safe well then it is an old game of gunslinger the guy on the bottom can gamble and try to take a risk to get up or to attempt a risky sub or sweep that will leave him vulnerable just like the guy on top can gamble for a flurry to finish or risky sub from top. (works both ways why should guy on top gamble the W when the guy on the bottom can open up and gamble just the same)

    – inflict enough damage and do enough standing before you get a taken down and laid on as an exciting stand up game will trump a boring lay down game in the judges eyes if you can stand up longer than he can lay on you

I disagree wrestling has the advantage, every fight starts standing..(what if they started fightys on the ground?)… if you dont wanna be taken down go to boxing or kickboxing, stay in jitz tournaments where you get penalized for stalling. To adjust rules to favour one style or the other regardless of what it is is rediculous the goal is to see what style and fighter is the best everywhere.

i agree 100% with gunner! its on the bottom guy to try better his situation and take the risks cuz the guy on top has scored with the takedown, now its on the bottom guy to turn the tables and take the big risks if need be.

Gunner’s better loved than I am so he’ll get more thumbs up which is good because he’s made a very good post. If you don’t want to end up looking like Shannon Ritch you should probably learn to at least sink an underhook or how to effectively use a whizzer.

    Mr. D Duck

Note: I’m not saying Jordan can’t do this and this is more of a general statement. When you’re fighting someone with a wrestling skill set like Woodley you’re going to need more than just a copy of Gokar’s DVD to help you.

I hate it when people criticize a fight in saying that it was boring or that it was just a lay and pray etc. If you want to see a boxing match, go to a boxing event, if you want to see a muay thai fight, go to one of those, if you want to see a street fight, go to a bar, if you want to see a wrestling match, well, you get the point. We are talking about MMA – Mixed Martial Arts where a VARIETY of martial arts skills are displayed. Sure, some fights may not be as exciting as others to watch, but from the fighters view they are just as exciting. These fighters need to be ready to fight any style of fighter. Just because a fight has a lot of blood and hits doesn’t make it more worthy than a fight that incorporated jiu jitsu or wrestling that may be slower and more ‘boring’ for some viewers. I respect all elements of a MMA match.
