Instinct Signs Third Ringside Champion

Quebec’s MMA war is unabatedly heating up. On the heels of its recent signing of Ringside (RS) Welterweight champion Chris Clements, Instinct MMA has secured a three-fight agreement with yet another of its competitor’s belt-holders, Daron Cruickshank.

The Michigan-based Lightweight captured the RS title in an exciting five-round battle with Montreal’s Mike Ricci (6-2) less than a week ago at Ringside 12.

Speaking at the event’s post-fight press conference, RS promoter Eric Champoux said he’d offered his new champion a three-fight contract extension (Friday’s appearance was on a one-fight deal).

The move over to Instinct means Cruickshank is now unlikely to meet former RS Lightweight champ Guillaume Delorenzi, mentioned as a probable next opponent by Champoux on Friday.

Cruickshank joins Clements and former RS Light-Heavyweight kingpin Steve Bossé in Stephane Patry‘s new organization, as just the latest sign of Instinct’s aggressive signing policy. In a post-fight interview with ‘Big Win’ Don Wilson last Friday, Cruickshank hinted at displeasure with his treatment by Ringside.

Since debuting in late 2009, the 26 year-old has already fought 11 times, finishing in six of his nine wins. Other than his last two fights, the decision over Ricci, and a 1st-round TKO of Brad Cardinal (13-8) at Slammer in the Hammer, Cruickshank has exclusively fought south of the border in his native United States.

It’s already pretty ugly!!! I think Instinct has the top 170 pound division right now they have tough vets and some of the best up and comers, and now filling out the other divisions. Great job so far Mr Patry, I’m sure there will be some more signings by the end of the week, Instinct 2 is going to be a solid card again,

I find it surprising that Champoux would sign aguy to fight for a title without having a chalking clause in place should he win and thus need to defend the title. Very short sighted. In any case, it’s always good for fighters to have options and Instinct MMA is indeed proving to be an appealing one for many of the fighters in Quebec, and Michigan too lol.

Patry is a crook, he has owned four shows all went out of business , keeps changing the names to keep the collections of his back, he’s bad for the sport.
