Even the Jimmo Sokoudjou pics are boring.

  2. LOL, sorry if you thought by some miracle the photos would make the fight look more exciting ;)

Jbow is a great photog but he can’t magically make a boring fight look exciting.

The rest of the photos do show how exciting the rest of the show was tho.

Main event photos clearly show Soku’s tampered with gloves. Brutal

  7. Jamie Locke says:

You can see that Sok’s gloves don’t have the knife edge in them anymore where Jimmo’s does….

Interesting indeed… No doubt we’ll never hear a reason why this was allowed.

  8. Gunner says:

not sure if gloves were tampered with as i was not there no do i know but if you look really close at bopth gloves they seem to be two completly different gloves as Jimmo’s have no black thumb loops and thicker black side band where as soku’s have less black side band and a black thumb loop. just observation that they may have no tampering just completly different glove than what jimmo has on so there may have been some agreement but i am unsure why but they do it in boxing

I wouldn’t be screaming conspiracy just yet boys although this wouldn’t be the first time in Edmonton that someone fought in their own gloves (Joe Riggs vs Thorne). I know for my limited fight experience that sometimes the largest and smallest gloves from the same company can have minor variations in them from the standard sizes. I also know that even what appears to be the same sized glove from the same producer can have variation in it (I cut up my hand during a fight wearing the same size and model from the same producer that I had in previous fights without issue).

Sudoku appears to have very large hands so maybe it was just a variation. Now if they would have had, oh I dunno “Strikeforce” across the back then we might have a bigger issue. Still worth asking the dressing room inspector what’s up though.

  10. Jamie Locke says:

Yeah, I was by no means saying there is something wrong. I was just aknowledging the difference in gloves and saying that we’ll never know whether they were legit or not, and if they were not, nothing would ever be done about it.

Basically just airing my lack of confidence in the Edmonton commission….

  11. alandale says:

Reid allowed Soku to take his gloves with him after the weigh in. This goes completely against the commission rules of fighters receiving their gloves which have been sized and bagged at the weigh in, the night of the fights.

Soku’s gloves were clearly tampered with and in the still photos you can see how the hand wrap is exposed causing an advantage in punching and how the glove allowed more room for his hand to work, making grabbing easier to do.

The fact the exec director allowed this to happen is assinine.

  12. Kris says:

If it’s any consolation, neither of these f@&$?ers landed anything on each other. They clearly were exhausted from telling the world, pre fight, just how much damage they were gonna inflict. That fight sucked ass…

Shut the front door! Do you have proof of this? If so why isn’t this a major story?

  14. Hunter says:

It should be a major story—he was allowed to take the gloves a day before the fight, are all the fighters allowed to do that ? I am sure that other fighters have big hands too !
It is against the rules ,other fighters would not even think of asking !

  15. BigBoi says:

12.16 Under no circumstances are gloves to be placed on the hands of a contestant until the approval of the inspector is received. Substances other than tape and gauze shall not be utilized. For example, prewraps should not be used.

Nope, according to ESCS’s very own published rules you are not allowed to do this without ESCS approval.

  16. BigBoi says:

    Further to the above point:

12.19 Gloves shall be new, made of leather, approved by the Commission and supplied by the promoter at the time of the weigh in accordance with section 5.26 and 5.27. No contestant shall supply their own gloves for participation.

  17. Jason says:

From what I understand, Sokoudjou’s gloves were custom made due to the size of his hands which may explain differences. As for the rest (taking home/etc) I can’t speak on that at all.

  18. BigBoi says:

Jason that was my thoughts. I can’t see ECSC letting a fighter take their gloves home. More to the point I can’t imagine Mark letting someone do that.

  19. BigBoi says:

Alan? Do you have proof that Sokudjou took the gloves with him at the weigh ins?

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 1

  20. alandale says:

He was seen leaving the weigh in with his gloves by several. His gloves were not custom made, they were cut up as you can clearly see in the pictures

Pat Reid should be traded to the Moncton commission

  23. alandale says:

It doesn’t matter that Jimmo won. What matters is that the gloves were clearly visible to have been tampered with. What else was done to them? Were they frozen in water then the foam broken down to make the padding less effective? Was the hand able to slip out of the knife edge of the glove when punching, effectively giving him a “bare knuckle” advantage? Did it make it easier for him to grab when he had more room to work his hands? I’m sure all fighters would like those potential advantages, no?
