Congradulations to Roland Delorme! Theres a ton of solid talent on this season too so it should be interesting

  2. Jamie Locke says:

I like that they’re going back to elimination fight to get into the house! I also like no more wild card.

This should be a good season, although I’m not a Bisping fan. I’m hoping Delorme gets picked onto team Miller.

    Looking forward to this!

If you saw the UFC on Fox press conference there is footage of rolly winning his elimination fight so he will be in the house … not to spoil it for everyone..

  10. Congrats Rolly! I can’t wait for Sept. 21 !

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  11. Smash. Last I checked everybody had the opportunity to try out for the show.

Just because you feel lots of better people could have made it, doesn’t mean Rolly doesn’t deserve to be where he is.

You have no idea what he went through thus far.

    Go get em Rolly!

  13. Hawkes says:

There is nobody better in canada for this spot… Roland is a solid fighter with a wide array of skills, he has a good record against solid competition, and he has the personality to be a star.

There is no one with more of a total package.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  14. pretty sure package has nothing to do with it.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  15. Gunner says:

Congrats Delorme nice to see a skilled fighter represent Canada on the show again.

    MR DROLET

My package has everything to do with it, it prevents me from ever making 155lbs

  16. EPerez says:

Only took 10 comments to find someone jealous of someone else’s success. Nice.

  17. Gunner says:

Eric i am not gonna lie i am jealous of his success but still happy to see a skilled canadian get there shot

I can only hope someone is as jealous of my package as they are of Rolly’s success though

  18. EPerez says:

I dont suppose theyll show your package on Spike?

  19. Bobby Karimi says:

Smash, you said plenty of better Canadians. Could you name them please?

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  20. smash says:

Like I said I mean no disrespect, I would just think that John Fraser, Adrian Wooley, Richard Nancoo, Nick Denis, Josh Hill, etc.. would be better suited. Good for Delorme though I hope he proves me wrong.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  21. EPerez says:

Richard Nancoo?!! Does he even fight anymore?! You threw out Richard Nancoo’s name?! He was good when he was fighting but I havent heard his name in YEARS! Richard Nancoo. Really?!

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  22. Huge congrats Roland!

Too bad they didnt take more Canadians either. There was a ton of talent down there from Canada of course(Eric Wilson, Nick Denis, Wooley, Veal, Fraser, etc), but glad Roland made it on. I hope he does well, all the best Rolly!

  26. Mike Davis says:

Matt Jaggers, Carson Beebe & T.J. Dillashaw are the fav’s in my eyes but best of luck too Delorme will be pulling for him. Weird this season has 3 natural 125ers will they just open that division soon!

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  27. Remz says:

    Yep…Flyweight by Feb 2012 is the rumour…

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  28. Robin Black says:

Rolly more than deserves it and, smash, 4 of the guys you named (Denis, Wooley. Fraser and Nancoo) went down and auditioned. At 1 or 2 of them got the second call back and auditioned a second time.

The most educated and experienced MMA and TV people selected Delorme as the perfect candidate who had the right traits for TV as well as a real potential to win.

The only difference between Rolly and ALL FIVE of the guys you mentioned is that Rolly is from WINNIPEG and the other FIVE and ALL from SOUTHERN ONTARIO.

    You, sir, are an anti-Winnipegerite.

  29. Robin Black says:

Prediction: Rolly will be in the finals.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  30. James Petryk says:

I think Delmorme deserves it, but ya it’s crazy a guy like Richard Nancoo could try out and not make the show. Maybe now with Spike not involved in future seasons, stuff like that won’t happen as much. Too late though for Monkey being on TUF though! Unless something behind the scenes is in the works for him to just be in the UFC or something. I really hope he continues to pursue MMA again. He hasn’t fought in 5 years. Anyone familiar with Monkey in present day knows what a high level black belt he has become in those 5 years. I just can’t believe some of the people that actually made the show (or at least prelims) with how many actual bantams and featherweights are chomping at the bit – LEGIT ones.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  31. James Petryk says:

It’s also possible our most recent Canadian representative on the show was so incredibly boring on TV that all of us Canadians are screwed going forward. Maybe they only want to take the risk of one Canadian per season!

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  32. Hawkes says:

If any of you knew Rolly you would know he has charisma. I think he walked into the audition and called the producer a “fag” and they ate it up. The guy is built for TUFF.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  33. HaggisBasher says:

    @ James Petryk
I was told that age plays a factor in picking who makes it on the show

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  34. BigBoi says:

This discussion is full of dumb.

TUF picks are based on TV ratings. They put Roy Nelson on the show and he already had a string of wins over UFC vets.

One thing for sure is that they definately love their clowns. End of the day its all marketing people and a clown who’s happy to drink beer and do dumb shit on TV is going to play a lot better than a guy like Nancoo who’d probably be in bed early and wrecking everyone else.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  35. James Petryk says:

I understand the age thing to some degree. Nancoo would have been good for TV though. At the end of the day, I’m sure every season has guys passed over that don’t make sense. It isn’t really members of the community that actually train, compete and fight that are picking these guys for the show, so it is something that we need to expect that retard decisions are made. So you’re right: a discussion about people that are full of dumb is a discussion full of dumb.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  36. Robin Black says:

I’ve done some reality TV. Its fascinating stuff.

And, yes, there are tons of factors in choosing who is cast.

But having said that, Rolly Delorme is a UFC caliber fighter who has nice hands, great Jiu-Jitsu, solid wrestling, great cagework, and a great head for fighting.

Anyone who has trained with him, foi\ought him, seen him fight or (in my case) called a couple of his fights will tell you he’s a special fighter.

Because he’s from Winnipeg people don’t know him.

    re: Nancoo

    The guy is amazing.
Can someone make Nancoo vs Curtis Brigham please? Its the only fight that makes sense.
Both guys are Black Belts, both are 135, both want to fight again and no one is stupid enough to fight either guy.
    Its a perfect match up.

  37. BigBoi says:

FYI – I’m not calling Eric a clown, I think he’s got good skills and should do well on the show.

  40. This was Eric Wilson’s TUF Audition video they made in case he didnt get down to the tryouts, but he ended up making the tryouts. Pretty good vid! lol.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq0f0zDk-rE

Also Janz Stein made it down and ended up making some money for tapping his opponent during the tryouts.

I agree Rolly will be good for TV and has a great shot at making it far. Very excited to see how he does!

  41. HaggisBasher says:

    @ Mike Davis
Having meet all these guys I would say at least 5 are natural 125ers

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  42. Robin Black says:

There was some debate about the TUF selection process. Here’s my reasonably educated assessment:

Zuffa cuts the applicants down in the first round of judging by about 70%, in their best efforts to choose based on records, panel knowledge, and a quick basic assessment of their skills.

They presume any of the remaining guys are top 10 or 15% ish (of all fighters out there) talent-wise and at least somewhat worthy of being considered.

All of those are sent to the 2nd round in Vegas, and they get medically checked and background checked. Up to half of them don’t pass the medicals or the background check.

After that, all the guys left are given to the casting department, who chooses the “best” of that group based on personality, TV qualities, etc.

Then they re-confer with the UFC for last minute thoughts or changes or additions based on all aspects and choose the cast.

    Boom. TV.

Mama Hawkes has seen and knows how talented and dedicated Roly is to the sport and the rest of his team at WAMMA.
An outstanding young man as you will all see come the T.V.show. Watch and enjoy!!!!!

@HaggisBasher that’s nuts they need to open that up cause it seems like Flyweights are poping up all over the place all of a sudden.

  46. Ian McWalter says:

Anything said other than “Congratulations Rolly” is sour grapes. It’s a very cool achievment for Rolly and WAMMA so don’t be a wanker and shit all over it.
