Kaufman vs. Carmouche Breakdown

Kaufman squares off with Carmouche

Strikeforce Challengers 17 is coming live from Las Vegas on Super Channel this Friday. There are not too many well known names on the card for Canadians. While some Canadian fans may remember Ovince St. Preux from his tussle with Jason Day at Evolution and Roger Bowling and Bobby Voelker are somewhat recognizable as headliners, Sarah Kaufman is the fighter everyone north of the border will tune in for.

Sarah Kaufman will finally make her return to the organization she once dominated when she meets Liz Carmouche at Strikeforce Challengers 17. Both women share a common loss to Marloes Coenen as both women were submitted by the 135 lbs champion in the later rounds.

Kaufman will look to employ her striking against Carmouche to set up takedowns where she can use her ferocious ground and pound to weaken Carmouche and get ahead on the score cards. Kaufman will need to use her wrestling to get Cramouche to the mat and avoid any sort of tie ups or clinches. Carmouche demonstrated she can dismantle fighters in the clinch as seen in her loss to Conen.

Carmouche may have just six fights under her belt but she was able to dominate champion Coenen before being submitted by a Hail Mary triangle. Kaufman’s strategy should be to ground and pound Carmouche but that could be a risky strategy as Liz has shown a great ability to scramble off transitions on the ground. Carmouche also has some serious skills in the clinch and will try to counter Kaufman’s wrestling with tie ups, something Sarah will need to avoid.

Kaufman’s best chance in this fight is to use her combination to keep Carmouche guessing and shoot in for the takedown when Carmouche is off balance. While Carmouche will look to tie up Kaufman, slow down the pace and decimate Sarah in the clinch where she can avoid Kaufman’s hands.

Pick: Kaufman’s speed, footwork and combinations should be enough to frustrate Carmouche en route to a unanimous decision victory.

I can see this one being a slug fest! Kaufman needs to keep her chin down once the trading starts. If she can wheather the first round of trading shots, Sarah will employ her bad ass take downs and then we`ll see the GNP victory!

Does Kaufman’s deal allow her to fight in Europe and/or Asia?
