Jordan Mein signed a four fight deal with Strikeforce last week and they have wasted little time in throwing Jordan Mein right into the deep end of the Welterweight pool. Stikeforce officially announced today that Mein will take on former title contender Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos on their September 10th card. It is not yet know if the out will take place on the main card or the preliminary card.

Mein, the 6th ranked welterweight in Canada is riding a five fight win streak including wins over Ultimate Fighter 2 competitor Josh Burkman and UFC veteran Joe Riggs. Mein’s only loss over his last ten bouts came to current Strikeforce fighter Jason High in a close decision at Rumble in the Cage 40. Mein and Santos share a common opponent in current DREAM Welterweight Champion Marius Zaromskis. Mein dominated Zaromskis en route to a unanimous decision victory while Santos was able to stop the Lithuanian via first round strikes.

Santos was initially slated to take on British slugger Paul Daley in July but was forced off the card due to a shoulder injury. Prior to that Santos failed in a bid to take the Strikeforce Welterweight title from Nick Diaz, losing by armbar despite a strong start in their fight this past January.

Why are people acting like this is such a big step? His last 6 fights have been tough fights and he’s had 3 wins over highly regarded fighters. This is a dangerous fight because Cyborg has power but he’s very beatable. Solid fight. It’s a very good opportunity to beat a guy who just fought for the title.

With a win by Mein SF would be in. Good position to build both High and Mein’s profiles with a rematch. All the title talk is irrelevant until Zuffa decides what to do with the vacancy left by Diaz’s departure.

I agree with hank… Mein has a better record and has fought some tough opposition. I think jordan will handle Cyborg with his footwork and movement!

  21. kris says:

Yeah why the talk about mein being a champ by 2012? Unfair and unrealistic! Don’t get me wrong, I hope he does, that kid is amazing. But that pattern of thinking just sets him up for failure.

I hate working the night shift. Holidays start after tonight. Dam man, I’m getting excited. Where is the pre party, after party, or any party? I’m watching utube videos of the fighters. I can’t stop watching Dewees’s “bloodiest” fight ever shown on TV, that’s crazy shit.
