Canadian Rumour Mill – July 11

By:

I guess a bunch of people take the summer break off in Alberta :)

  • A little strange that the UFC Vancouver suspension list comes out a month after the show and some fighter’s suspensions are already up. This comes on the heels of some terrible judging decisions on that same show.
  • Adam Lorenz pulled out of the fight with Bellator due to a miscommunication that lead to contract dispute that couldn’t be rectified in time.
  • A few questions I’m curious about: Will CCF’s rescheduled show still be in Sangudo (Does that seem like a weird site, or is it just me), will they still be using ICSA as their commission, and is the TV deal with The Fight Network still a go?
  • Look for Anthony “Showtime” Pettis to be a special guest and in attendance for his younger brother Sergio’s professional MMA debut. Obviously, Duke Roufus will be there as well.
  • Is Troy Sorensen good to fight? I remember him getting a pretty severe concussion fighting for the KOTC Canada Lightweight belt against Chad Freeman. He’s set to fight on July 16 for KOTC Canada, but is still listed as suspended. I’m sure this’ll be cleared up…
  • Remember us talking about Hard Knocks expanding? Well are they ever! Calgary, Alberta – September 23 • Century Casino, Regina, Saskatchewan – October 7 • Turvey Centre, Estevan, Saskatchewan – October 22 • Spectra Place, Medicine Hat, Alberta – November 10 • Cypress Centre, Calgary, Alberta – November 25 • Century Casino
  • First Aggression MMA made a media deal with Takedown Entertainment, now it seems Evolution FC is about to come to terms.
  • Antonio McKee is now no longer on the Colloseo card, lol.
  • EFC is continuing their domination of Northern Alberta. Three shows EFC #10, #11,and #12 coming Sept, Oct, and Nov. With all of their champs defending their titles sometime in those three shows. Is northern BC next for them?
  • Ok, here’s another suspension mystery… Chris Johnson got KO/TKO on the Cage Rage boxing fight thingamajig, suspension hasn’t been lifted yet as per the ABC, but he’s fighting for the Elite 1 Heavyweight belt vs Scott Fraser. I think his suspension should have been up today, but still looks strange to me.
  • I’m a little curious but what’s with Lindsay Hawkes being the only WAMMA fighter currently listed on the upcoming CFC show? Usually the card has quite a few WAMMA fighters sprinkled on the card.
  • Horodecki is not fighting on the Professional Fighting Championship card in Windsor on the 16th.   Numerous people are saying that many, many opponents were put in front of Horodecki’s management and the commission and not one was acceptable to both parties.   There is talk that Ken Hayashi will take another look at the Brad Cardinal vs Chris Horodecki matchup scheduled for Freedom Fights.

  4. MAMA says:

Troy Sorensen is good to go. After Troy’s fight he was examined thoroughly by a doctor and they saw no evidence of a concussion and was released immediately. Since then he has received a CAT scan and it also has shown no signs of a concussion or any head trauma.

That is good look forward to his fight, saw he was fighting but was not aware he was on suspension list.

  7. MAMA says:

I don’t think he is aware he is on a suspension list either. He was originally on like a 4 week suspension after his fight because of a ‘concussion’, but since he was cleared of even having a concussion, not sure why he would be on some suspension list…

    Hmmm, interesting.

  9. Cody Rempel says:

He’s fighting under the same commission that suspended him so hopefully it should be pretty easy to have it cleared up before the fight!

  10. MAMA says:

They did clear him. That website just isn’t updated yet. The website also has him listed as a 145 fighter and he fights at 155.

    From KOTC:

“Troy Sorensen needed a new CT Scan after his KO and it was done and came out clean and was forwarded to the Commission doctor who would inform Pat to lift the suspension. Just a formality at this point.”

MMA.TV is great for Amateur records and suspension records but their fight records and fighter info is not the greatest. At one point they had Tim Chemelli’s fights scattered over three different spellings, none of which were correct!

thank god lino’s show did not go on. Guys its the best thing possible this guy has no money and anyone fighting there is gonna get short changed.. Im all for athletes getting paid and thats why its good he was smart enough to postpone/more than likely cancel the show.

Rumor is that the show in regina has ruffled some feathers. Apparently, the only other show in Regina (Saturday Night Fights) is not happy about someone else coming into there territory. The people that run this show also run a local mma club and have forbidden there team from taking this opportunity to compete in there hometown.
Even gone so far as to give some member(s) of the team “the boot” for being involved with Hardknocks.
