Budd Returns at Strikefoce Challengers 16

It was recently announced that Julia “The Jewel” Budd pulled out from her slated battle with Anna Barone at MMA Live to fight for Strikeforce. Now the date and opponent for the Gibson Kickboxing & Pankration fighter has been set. The Jewel will now take on Germaine “The Iron Lady” de Randamie as the opening bout of the main card for Strikeforce Challengers 16.

Budd, a Port Moody native, burst onto the scene in October 2010 by defeating Shana Olsen via TKO in her pro MMA debut. The Jewel earned a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of British Colombia in 2007. Budd is now a Strength and Conditioning and Muay Thai coach at the famous Gibson MMA gym based out of her hometown. Julia is probably best known for defeating MMA/Movie star Gina Carano in a Muay Thai match.

De Randamie is coming off a devastating KO win over Stephanie Webber at Strikeforce Diaz vs. Cyborg. Germaine, a Muay Thai star in her own right, is a former WIKBA World Muay Thai Champion.  She also held the European championship on three separate occasions.

Strikeforce Challengers 16 goes down June 24 at the Showare Center in Kent, Washington. The card also features Ryan Couture versus Matt Ricehouse, Lorenz Larkin versus Gian Villante and Antwain Britt versus Danillo Villefort. Canadian MMA fans can catch all the action live on Super Channel at 11 pm est.
