Bongfeldt Gets New Opponent For UFC 131

By:

A knee injury has forced TUF 11 winner Court McGee out of a scheduled bout with Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 131, as reported by MMAweekly.com and Sherdog.com. In McGee’s place steps unbeaten prospect Chris Weidman who will now face Bongfeldt in Vancouver, BC.

Weidman (5-0) is a Matt Serra protégé who most recently out wrestled Alessio Sakara to take a unanimous decision victory at UFC Live 3. Weidman, a stand out wrestler from Hofstra University, spent his short MMA career in Ring of Combat before being picked up by the UFC.

Bongfeldt (21-7-1),  a CMAC product, recently had his seven fight win streak snapped when he made his UFC debut and fought Rafal Natal to a majority draw. During his seven fight win streak, Bongfeldt defeated UFC veterans TJ Grant and Sean Pierson.

UFC 131 will be Zuffa’s second trip to Vancouver and will be headlined by Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos. Also on the card are Canadians Sam Stout, who will throw down with Yves Edwards, and Winnipeg’s own Krzysztof Soszynski, who will tussle with Aussie Anthony Perosh. UFC 131 goes down June 11 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC.
