Hard Knocks Fighter Scholarship Announced


Hard Knocks Fighting Championship hopes to promote education through the School of Hard Knocks Academic Scholarship, proudly supported by Spolumbo’s Fine Food & Deli

After receiving a $1000 donation from Spolumbo’s Fine Food & Deli, the Alberta Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Association (AAMMAA) and Hard Knocks have decided to put the money toward two $500 academic scholarships for local fighters attending school.

Hard Knocks Fighting Championship is a grassroots, mixed martial arts promotion here in Calgary that promotes the development of amateur athletes. Hard Knocks CEO Ari Taub is a man of many talents. A 2008 Olympian wrestler, Ari Knows the dedication these elite athletes possess. As the head of his own law firm, Ari knows the value of a good education, and the financial struggle involved in getting one. Though the School of Hard Knocks Academic Scholarship Ari, Spolumbo’s, AAMMAA and Hard Knocks hope to promote the value of education and staying in school.

Chris Mattock and Sumeet Gill were chosen to receive this award because they show great potential in both their academic and fighting careers. Both these fighters fought as amateurs for Hard Knocks and made their debuts as professionals in Hard Knocks 8 in a match that pitted the two recipients against each other. These two young men have bright futures ahead of them inside the cage and outside of it. Both Chris and Sumeet currently attend classes at the University of Calgary.
