MFL 4: Destress – Changes to the Fight Card!
On March 12th, 2011 at Centre Pierre Charbonneau, come witness some of the most fierce warriors do battle inside the Octagon at MFL 4 – Destress. In the main event, Martin “Stress” Desilets makes his return to the province where he first won a light heavyweight championship, as he takes on Antony “Wild Thing” Rea in a battle that is expected to only hit the ground when one of them gets knocked out! This matchup alone is worth the price of admission, however MFL has also put together a fight card with some of the best fighters on the cusp of international attention. Joey Gambino from Tristar gym, Lee Villeneuve from BTT/Gamma and Dimitri Waardenburg from Speedy Gym are each looking to prove that they are some of the most exciting fighters training out of Quebec, and can not only win, but bring the fight fans out of their seats!
This could be Martin Desilets’ last match on Quebec soil before making his way to Bellator in the fall, as “Stress” puts himself to the test against the calibre of opponent he will be facing in their tournament. Desilets has not lost since he become a champion for the 1st time in 2008, but Antony Rea could be the toughest opponent he has faced yet. Hailing from France, Antony Rea, a veteran of Bodog Fight, has fought the likes of Rich Franklin, Jason MacDonald, Evagelista Santos, and Vitor Belfort in his 33 fight MMA career. 20 of his 33 fights have ended by way of TKO, and if you add the fact that 8 of Desilets 13 fights have ended the same way, no fireworks will be required as they make their way to the Octagon, because there will be plenty during their match.
Due to an unfortunate injury Steve “Lionheart” Vigneault suffered during training camp, his matchup has been pulled from the card. Moving up the card as a result will be Dave Pariseau (7-7-1), member of Team Legion and part of the much loved Pariseau fighting family, as he takes on Albert Cheng (2-0) who trains at Xtreme Couture in Toronto. Dave Pariseau is never one to back down from tough competition, as he has already faced such notables as Chris Horodecki, Martin Grandmont, Kajan Johnson, Jordan Mein and Derek Gauthier, to whom he lost in his last outing. Cheng has yet to suffer defeat, and seems to relish playing the role of bad guy, beating his two opponents in their own backyards. He looks to do the same with Quebec native, Pariseau.
Also on the card is Lee Villeneuve (2-0) who recently placed 2nd in the Abu Dhabi qualifying tournament that took place recently in Montreal. At the age of 32, Villeneuve’s time is now to make an impression in the MMA word. His opponent is yet to be determined. Joey Gambino (5-0) sees his opponent change, as he is now facing Jon Bates. Joey started off as a wrestler but has become is a well rounded athlete with much improved striking, and someone who is looking for a KO, instead of just ground and pound. Joey’s opponents have yet to make it to the 3rd round. The promoter’s Dirk Waardenburg, has a personal stake in one of the matches as well, as his son, Dimitri Waardenburg (7-4), looks to continue his 5 fight win streak at the expense of James Haourt (4-4).
MFL 4 – Destress takes place on Saturday, March 12th, at Centre Pierre Charbonneau. Doors open at 6pm, with the undercard expected to begin at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased either at Centre Pierre Charbonneau or directly from the fighters.
