Campbell holds an undefeated record in MMA, and is considered one of the most decorated Muay Thai practitioners competing in the sport today. He will now look to exhibit his world class striking skills on a larger stage. “Shaolin” was the 2009 WMA World Muay Thai Champion, as well as the 2007 WKA World Muay Thai Champion. All told, Campbell has competed in over fifty Muay Thai fights. His March 11th bout with Payan promises to deliver a thrilling scrap for all the fans watching.
“We are very excited to have acquired Shane ‘Shaolin’ Campbell to fight for us at Aggression MMA,” stated promotion co-owner Harvey Panesar. “His talent is raw and exciting. One has to look no further than his accomplishments in Muay Thai to know what he brings to Aggression.”
Under the guidance of world-renowned instructor Kru Alin Halmagean of Iron Tiger Muay Thai, “Shaolin’s” transition to MMA has been flawless. Mr. Halmagean has experienced success within the sport in the past, as he has guided the career of current UFC fighter Claude Patrick.
Mr. Halmagean is just as excited as Mr. Panesar regarding Campbell’s Aggression debut. “I am very elated to have Shane fight for one of the best promotions in Canada, and I promise the MMA fans in Edmonton that he will give them a show every time he will step into the Aggression MMA cage in 2011!”
“Shaolin’s” opponent, Estevan Payan, holds a pro MMA record of 9-3, and is a two-time Bellator veteran. A member of the well-respected Arizona Combat Sports fight team, Payan has trained with former WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner in the past, and is known for showcasing his skills in crowd-pleasing fights. He will make his Canadian fight debut against Campbell.
This matchup has all of the ingredients to be an instant Fight of the Night. More announcements are expected shortly regarding the March 11th Aggression MMA event.
