Thanks Robin, I was starting to worry that we were getting screwed. Do you have any idea who else is on the card?

Any option rumours yet Robin? By the way, why did Dietz have to pull out?

  3. Jeff says:

Yikes! Only a few confirmed fights, with two days till event.

  4. I would not say that they only have a few confirmed fights.

This list means that Top MMA News only knows about 5 of them or can only post about 5 (if some have been told to us off the record)

I have my fingers crossed that you guys can announce an opponent for Nick Denis in 45 minutes. In commission’s hands now. Fingers crossed…..

Why did Dietz drop off the card?

  8. Robin Black says:

Dietz’ people are saying he might have a broken hand or something.

Waiting on replacement. He’s top 5 in Bloody Elbow’s prospect list I believe. Could be a great fight!

  9. Robin Black says:

Also want to say there’s a gentleman by the name of Jim Gentle who’s working with Jones Entertainment who has done a fantastic job of working to get a replacement 2 days out from show. This kind of effort for fighters is really commendable.
Working hard to come through for a fighter like that really says good things about this show and about jones Entertainment and their commitment to a fighter like Nick.

Up to the commission now. Fingers crossed.

Ok, my fingers are numb! Any word? Dam Commissions!!

  11. Robin Black says:

Seriously, you can’t blame commission. They make the requirements prohibitively hard to make it too difficult for people who aren’t capable to do.

Its a complex business that affects countless people and only people capable of meeting their strict requirements should be in the business.

There is a growing group of people who are pro-OAC who understand why they are so strict and see that its a good thing.

Anyhoo, really looking forward to the show and looking forward to seeing the great athletes do their thing.

So I take it that means no news on the Denis Fight?

  13. Gunner says:

word has it the commission would not approve any of the offers so unofficially but from a remark from Nick there is no nija loving happening on this card

  14. justsayin says:

Thanks Gunner, does anyone know who these potential opponents were that this Commission refused?

  15. Robin Black says:

Actually the commission did approve a great opponent for Denis, Farkhan Sharipov. The commission approved him and The MMA Live people did a great job of trying to get it done.

Each step of the process takes time, time to submit, time for meds, time to work it out with opponent’s people. When all of those steps added up, we ran out of time. At 9 PM last night people were still working hard to get it done and it was accepted by commission. We just ran out of time to get the logistics together to bring a guy from California for a Wednesday weigh in.

MMA Live, and especially one of their guys Jim Gentle, really worked hard to come through for Nick. We just ran out of time.

I really feel for Nick. If people knew how hard this guy works, how motivated he is, and just how good he really is, people’s minds would be blown. This guy deserves opportunities to perform at high levels against top names.

Kyle Dietz was a good opponent as a WEC vet, and Sharipov is a top guy, #2 on the prospect list.
Nick is a great guy and a great fighter. Hopefully there’s a fight for him against a great fighter very soon.

Thanks to MMA LIVE for really working hard to come through for him. We came up short getting that fight done but their efforts are really appreciated.

  16. Robin Black says:

And we had a $1500 advance in his contract and Brad Jones agreed to honour that, which is classy and appreciated.

  17. justsayin says:

Thanks for the update Robin. Needless to say, very disappointed and really do feel sorry for Nick Denis. I really am curious who the other Fighters were that were refused by the commission. This really could shed some light for promoters in Ontario on where the possibilities lie for Nick.
In light of this latest development would it not make sense for matchmakers to line up pre approved replacements? I can see this being an ongoing problem and serious disappointment to MMA fans but more importantly to the Fighters that work for months preparing for a match.

  18. Robin Black says:

There were no fighters turned down. We had 3 different fighters who were interested, and Sharipov was the best guy at 13-3 and was absolutely gung ho on 2 days notice. Sounds like a warrior, and Nick wanted him because he was the toughest of the 3. That’s who Nick Denis is. He wanted the toughest choice.

There’s still some great fights on the show, looking forward to seein it.

This show sux 5 fights, 2 main card level fights. Anyone want $160 tickets for $100? I have 2 and don’t want them anymore

  20. Update: I think I finally got the card. 7 fights after adding: Theo Toney* vs. Alan Wilson* and Chuck Mady* vs. James Haourt*

I guess I will know for sure after weighins.

  22. Robin Black says:

7 fights. Everyone is ready to fight.

Interviewed Karo for Fight Network. Interesting guy. He feels he’s ‘back’. Hopin he looks good.

Ford is in great shape. That dude cuts weight like a champ. Very dehydrated, but solid mentally.

MacGrath is ready. Aurelio looks good, but looked a bit older than I expected. Great shape tho.

Chucky and Haort are at 145. James looked like he might be pretty big. Chucky didn’t cut any really but he’s always game.

What an amazing event. Alan Wilson had the best victory in his debut & i won’t be surprised to see him in the UFC in a couple of years.
