Can The Lion Silence Belingon?
According to bloodyelbow.com, Canada’s 10th ranked bantamweight Ryan “The Lion” Diaz will start his 2011 campaign April 2nd at URCC XIX. Diaz will face URCC’s Bantamweight standout Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon in a 135 lbs Superfight title match in the main event.
Diaz (13-13) had a disappointing 2010 going 0-2, losing to Reuben Duran via KO in February and Chris Gruetzemacher via TKO at a Strikeforce Challengers card in August. Diaz, a former KOTC 135 lbs champion and 145 lbs Canadian champion is currently the head Muay Thai instructor at Arizona Combat Sports.
Belingon (8-0) fighting out of Manila will have the home town advantage going into his fight with Diaz. The 23 year old Wushu expert has been garnering a lot of attention from outside the Asian circuit and looks to use Diaz as a stepping stone to bigger shows in 2011.
Also according to bloodyelbow.com’s report, Diaz has signed a 3 fight deal with URCC so expect to see Diaz really heat it up in the Philippines this year.
