No Day Means Busy Night for Kalib Starnes

Starnes defeatedTop MMA News has confirmed that Jason Day has pulled out his WRECK MMA fight on January 28th.  Day was to fight FIT MMA’s Craig Brown in the main event of the card.

Do not despair WRECK fans!  The promotion has pulled a more than suitable replacement fighter out of its matchmaking hat.  British Columbia’s Kalib Starnes will now take on Craig Brown in the headliner.  In an interesting twist, this bout will have Starnes, the AFC’s Middleweight champion, facing off against the W-1’s Light-Heavyweight champion, Brown.

Starnes last fought top ranked Canadian Nick Hinchliffe to win the AFC crown and is 11-5-1 overall in his career.  Starnes, who has also beaten Chris Leben and Jason MacDonald, will be a stiff challenge for Ottawa’s Craig Brown.   Brown, who is 7-3, lost his last fight to that same Nick Hinchliffe at Aggression MMA.

Out Gunn-ed

In other WRECK news, Thunder Bay’s Nathan Gunn has also been forced to remove himself from the card due to medical issues.  Gunn was looking  forward to putting on a good fight with Louis-Philippe Carle and is disappointed in having to pull out.  There is no word on a replacement opponent for Louis-Philippe Carle at this time.

  8. Updates

Day was planning on returning to action but has recently needed to focus on other personal issues. He will be out of action until further notice.

Gunn on the other hand, had a growth on his neck surface and had to have it surgically removed. Unfortunately, he was in the hospital with this for weeks on end due to the doctors being unable to identify the cause or treatment for it. The verdict is still out on what the diagnosis is but he is healing up and looking forward to his next fight on the Wreck Card. If any of you are friends with him on FB, you can see the pics from surgery and well…pretty sick shit.

Anyways, in the meantime, be sure to root on some of my other clients in this shameless plug…lol.

Thanks for the info Jake and it has definatly not been a fun past month. I was really looking forward to fighting for WRECK and was very excited to get matched up with a classy and quality opponent in Carles, i hope they can find him and suitable opponent so his training can be put to use.
I was feeling great up until i had an alien invade my body and decide to try and get out through my neck.
I should be able to return to cardio and light weight training next week but cannot do any sparring or grappling until the final biopsy gets returned and my final follow up appoinment.

Wishing all the fighters and the WRECK company a very successful show and i cannot wait to be back and ready for there next one.

Train hard and stay healthy for all the guys fighting.
