World ranked featherweight Michihiro Omigawa has reached an agreement to return to the UFC and will take on undefeated Chad “Money” Mendes at a yet to be determined event in early 2011 however the bout is rumored to be taking place sometime in late February or early March.

The Japanese judoka will make his return to the Octagon for the first time since a less than impressive 0-2 run three years ago when he dropped back to back unanimous decision losses to lightweights Matt Wiman and Thiago Tavares respectively. After getting his release from the UFC he dropped another unanimous decision to “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in Deep. Since then Omigawa has gone 8-1-1 with victories over the likes of Marlon Sandro, L.C. Davis, Hatsu Hioki and Nam Phan among others.

Chad Mendes is riding a 9 fight win streak to open his career including going undefeated with 4 straight wins in the WEC in 2010. Mendes trains with Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez and the rest of the crew at Team Alpha Male in California.  The winner of this bout will undoubtedly be propelled to the top of the heap for a shot at Featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
