UFC 131 will be April 30 in Toronto

By:

Congratulations Ontario!  Your first sanctioned MMA event is now officially scheduled.

UFC 131 will be held at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario.  Dana White, along with Tom Wright, made this announcement at a press conference in Toronto today.

The crowd at the Rogers Centre should become the biggest in UFC history.  Dana White expects that “attendance records will be broken.” The biggest sporting event there was a Grey Cup that attracted 54,088 fans.  The event should have a similar configuration as the WWE had for Wreslemania which drew 68,237 spectators.

In addition to the UFC card, a UFC Fan Expo will also be held on April 29 and 30 at the Direct Energy Centre.

This announcement comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Ontario will start taking applications from promoters to hold events in Ontario.

  2. Officially sanctioned by who? Thought they weren’t taking applications until Jan. 1, 2011? That being said, am sure this is a done deal.

I think Skydome is too big. I watched UFC in Minneapolis in the nose bleed seats at the Target Center and the fighters looked like small action figures. We watched most of the card on the big screens. I can’t imagine what you’d be able to see in the upperdecks of Skydome. I think they should have had it at the ACC. What’s next, BC Place? The Big “O”?

It’s all about just being there! Hopefully they price the tickets properly…

For any of you Torontotarians – What do upper deck tickets cost for the Jays?

I’ve been to Jay’s games in the upper deck for 6$.

Ha! I forgot no one gives a shit about the Jays!

Let me re-phrase… When the Jays went on their run in the 90s how much were upper deck seats (actual stub price)? Add about 20% for inflation, that’s where they should be…

After speaking with the powers to be today, they have said anyone can announce a date, but doesn’t mean it’s a go. Applications for EVERYONE that means everyone will be accepted on January 1.2011.
