  4. Argeed, guys.

It actually reflects quite poorly on the commission and its judges. If they aren’t careful, they’ll come to be known for blatant home-town favouritism, which is not a great rep to have to say the absolute least, and could discourage quality international talent from competing in the MFC.

It was easily one of the absolute, bloody worst blown calls in recent MMA memory. Maybe the very worst of 2010, in fact.

  6. Yeah, you could go there, too, anon.

It wasn’t cool at all whatever it was.

You guys know that one of the judges is black right?

Did you know that 2 of the refs don’t live in Edmonton? 1’s from out east?

Did you talk to any of them or the Commission and ask why they judged it the way they did?

Did you know that they all just attended a judging course by Big John, and one of the things pointed out was that they shouldn’t automatically give the round to the guy on top, that lay and pray shouldn’t be good enough for the win, specially if they guy on his back is attempting subs?

Don’t you couch potato warriors always bitch about Lay and Pray fighters getting the W?

Did you know they were debriefed by the Commission after the event and explained that a couple of sub attempts doesn’t guarantee a W either?

Do you know why judges sit in 3 different spots?
That in 1 spot a fight can look different then in another?

And you really can’t deny that Razak didn’t do a whole lot of work for the win either.

    Well now you know.

  8. I just felt Al-Hassan did enough to get the nod unanimously.

I don’t believe Pavelich or anybody influenced the judges, and as pointed out, a few of them weren’t from the area.

I just think the wrong guy got the nod is all.

I’m looking forward to watching the fight again to see what I thought after watching it a few more times.

    But thanks for educating us

You sound like you have a big part of working with the judges and the commission. Who are you? Do you work on the River Cree Commission?

Knowing a few things about bad judging myself my opinion on the mattter is this, judging is someones opinion, noone can ever be right or wrong because its there opinion, if you agree with it or dont agree with it at the end of the day we cant argue it we cant change it we have to move on and learn to deal with it and use that knowledge next time to use the judging criteria in order to get a win even if 2 of the 3 judges might be blind.

I have a bit of experience with a few of the Commissions in Edmonton and Alberta.

    Mostly further East.

I’d love to give you more information, but anyone who knows about the kind of “political” BS in Alberta and that supporting any Commission could quite possibly get you the boot in the others.

So I can only be here with info on Regulation within Canada, and a bit of our big brother in the south, with no specific details.

As a side note, I do think it was the wrong decision by 2 of the judges, but at the same time Razak let it get to the end of the 3rd.

The problem with televised shows is that you get the best angle almost all the time. It would be interesting to have a”judge cam”. I know I’ve seen events live and thought how the hell did a fighter get the W, then watched it on TV and seen the difference a different angle makes.

Judges do screw up all the time, but it is a tough job, not quite as tough as being a Ref though ;)

And we should be happy there are those willing to take the criticism and continue to work our shows.

These comments are a generalization and not directed at anyone, especially you MAD, you know how the game works and all the players that need to be involved.

  11. InTheKnow says:

Well said DL, and as long as we have Commissions that regularly review there Officials, the sport will continue to grow on the Regulation side.

It’s those that don’t that scare me, it’s unfortunate that being a legal commission only means being there on behalf of the municipality, and nothing to do with qualified impartial members…

It is after all still a relatively young sport.

Uhhhhhh, yeah that’s it. Are they secretly hiding an Aryan Saviour to come in and beat Ryan Ford too?

  13. anon says:

In the know. It doesn’t take much to figure out that the River Cree commission and the Edmonton commission are not very ethical. You sound really upset. Did you watch Ryan Jimmo vs. Emmanuel Newton? Another blatant robbery. It happened again last night. Did you happen to see the shit show at the last Heatxc in Edmonton? It was the worse mismatched card I’ve ever seen. How about when they screwed up and declared it a draw between Salomon and JMac. Then they changed their decisions later. It doesn’t take rocket science to see piss poor judging so don’t insult our intelligence.

  14. And as easy as it is to shit on a judge we don’t agree with, we aren’t trained like they are, and we aren’t watching it from their vantage point.

And it’s way easier to judge with instant replay at home watching a move over and over.

Judges have a tough job. Bottom line the fighters shouldn’t leave it to the judges.

I think we are slowly getting better, but maybe we can use fights like this as an educational tool.

I’d never want to be a judge, but i’d love to be educated and certified under Big John McCarthy’s program.

I agree also about refs, they have an even tougher job.

The worst part about judges and refs, is you Rarely hear when they do a good job. It’s the 1 mistake they’ll make that everybody remembers.

Very thankless jobs, and for the most part these people are volunteers, or very low money for the work they do.

    Keep up the good work.

I don’t think anyone here needs to insult your intelligence.

And I’m sure no one here thinks the system is perfect, or even close to it at the moment, including me.

But calling out judges as racists or biased is bullshit and ignorant.

Why not show up at a Commission meeting in your local city and get involved.

Or at the very least learn a bit about regulating the sport. And this goes out to EVERYONE, Commission meetings in Edmonton/Calgary are public, and NO ONE shows up to listen and learn, or at the very least keep the Commission members honest at meetings.

  16. InTheKnow says:

I would honestly love for fans and members of the MMA community to attend meetings.

It would be awesome for MMA news groups to attend and report, but I know full well that doing so may jeopardize ringside privileges. It’s a shame Commissions use this to protect their interests.

So I’m a little unclear…who do you guys think won the Lewis/what his name fight? lol. Good job pulling the racism card retards. Pretty sure it must have been Dwyane Lewis slipping the judges a cool crisp $20 Canadian bill. Give me a break with the conspiracy theories. If you leave it to the judges don’t expect to be satisfied every time. And, did I miss an MFC event because Jimmo hasn’t fought for the title as mentioned several times above. They (Jimmo & Lewis)might both be bald white guys but that’s probably where it ends. Jimmo’s girlfriend is Asian and his niece is black, sounds like a real cross burner eh dumb ass. Do some of you not think at all before you post shit. On the other hand…thanks to Intheknow and Drolet for some insightful comments. It made for interesting reading amidst the bullshit.
