Alessio Heads to Holland for United Glory Tourney


On only eight days notice, John “The Natural” Alessio will pack his bags and venture to Europe for the first time to compete in the United Glory MMA Welterweight tournament.

The eight man tournament will take place over three events and features a plethora of MMA talent from all over the globe. Tournament competitors are Siyar Bahadurzada (Former Shooto Middleweight Champion), Nick Thompson (Former Bodog Welterweight Champion), David Bielkheden, Roan Carneiro, Luis Ramos, Tommy Depret and Sergey Golyaev.

Alessio will meet Sergey Golyaev in the first round. Golyaev is best known for his November 2008 split decision win over Takanori Gomi. Since then he has gone 4-1 in his past five outings, the sole loss coming via arm bar to Eiji Mitsuoka in January 2009.

For his part, Alessio is currently riding a five fight win streak with all victories coming via stoppage. Alessio’s last outing was a hard fought Rear Naked Choke victory over TUF alum War Machine at Tachi Palace Fights in July.

Top MMA News recently spoke to Alessio who is extremely fired up for the chance to put his stamp on this tournament. “I’m taking this fight on only eight days notice, but I’m going to show up in top form and perform like a warrior…” Currently John is weighing in at 181 lbs and see’s no problem with his weight cut, “I’m in fight shape already… I just need to drop the last few pounds…” John flies out Wednesday for Holland and plans on putting on a great show for his first foray into Europe as a fighter.
