No Rest for the Wicked: Grant to face Almedia at UFC 124

While coming off a impressive win over Julio Paulino at UFC 119 last month, TJ Grant will get little time to rest. The Cole Harbour native will be fighting Ricardo Almeida in Montreal at UFC 124 which will take place on December 11th. Grant is 3-2 in the UFC with wins over Ryo Chonan, Paulino and a Knockout of the Night bonus over Kevin Burns. While this could be a tough test for Grant, the possibilities are endless

“It is fantastic that he is getting a huge opportunity,” says Scott Maclean, Grant’s trainer/manager.

“He gets a chance to showcase his skills. Ricardo Almeida is a huge step up in competition for TJ. I think this will be a defining moment in TJ’s career.”

Almeida has been in the UFC for two years but started with the company in 2001 where he has compiled a record of 5-4 in the octagon, (12-4 overall). He does have an impressive resume with wins over the likes of Nate Marquardt and Ryo Chonan. He last fight was a lost via submission against UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes at UFC 117 in Oakland. Almeida is mostly known for his Brazilian Jiu Jistu skills where he has picked up numerous awards throughout his career. A win over a prospect like Grant can put him back in contention in the Welterweight division.
