Aggression MMA 5: Uprising Recap

Top MMA News was cage side at The Edmonton Expo Center for Aggression 5: Uprising. With 8 fights on the card and not one making it to the judges score cards, the fans were treated to a night full of exciting finishes.

Top MMA News award for Fight of the Night goes to a slugfest between Jason Gorny and Simon Marini. After being picked apart by the striking of Gorny, Marini finally took the fight to the mat and submitted Gorny with a Rear Naked Choke.

Top MMA News award for Submission of the Night goes to a returning Luke Harris who used his superior jiu jitsu skills to cinch a fight ending arm triangle, choking Siarhei Misialik unconscious in the process.

Last but certainly not least the Main Event lived up to it’s billing as Tim Hague captured the victory as well as Top MMA News award for Knockout of the Night with his thunderous right hand that put 75 fight veteran Travis Wiuff to sleep early in the first round of their heavyweight tilt.

Tim Hague vs Travis Wiuff
Travis looks to sneak a shot in immediately after the touch of the gloves and Hague responds big a knee up the middle in the clinch. Hague releases the clinch and takes to the air with a big flying knee. Wiuff closes the distance, grabs Hague and hip tosses him to the mat. Wiuff lands a few grazing shots from Hague’s guard before a brief stalemate prompts the referee to call for a stand up. Hague avoids a pair of jabs thrown bu Wiuff. Hague lands a big body shot to the midsection followed by a big overhand right that drops Wiuff to a knee and Hague unleashes a huge right that knocks Wiuff out and sends him crashing face first to the mat putting an end to Wiuff’s 8 fight undefeated streak and giving Hague his 2nd KO victory in a row and getting him one step closer to returning to the UFC.

Mukai Maromo vs Kurt Southern
Southern wants nothing to do with Maromo in the stand up department and secures a quick double leg landing in Maromo’s guard. Southern lands elbows to the body before passing to full mount and landing more shots. Maromo spins into Southern’s guard but gets caught in an armbar attempt. Maromo picks Southern up and slams him to the mat however Southern seizes the opportunity and locks up a triangle choke forcing Maromo to tap out and taste defeat for the first time in his short MMA career.

Luke Harris vs Siarhei Misialik
Harris rushes forward looking to take the fight to the ground. Harris lands a few shots before muscling Misialik to the mat and passing to full mount. Harris looks for a kimura attempt but Misialik is able to free his arm. Harris immediately locks on a deep arm triangle and Misialik is able to survive briefly but eventually the referee sees Misialik go limp and calls a halt to the contest.

Jason Gorny vs Simon Marini
Round 1:
Both fighters trade jabs followed by a big exchange. Gorny presses Marini against the ropes and lands knees to the thighs. The two continue to jockey for position against the ropes and Marini spins and presses Gorny into the corner. Gorny reverses and lands more knees to the thigh of Marini. Marini follows up with a trio of knees himself before the referee breaks them apart. Marini lands a combo and Gorny lands a leg kick. Marini unleashes a combo of punches before securing a guillotine choke attempt. Marini breaks him down and gets him to the mat before Gorny is able to escape the submission attempt. Marini gets to the back and looks to lock up a rear naked choke attempt. Marini flattens him out and continues to work for the submission until the round comes to a close. Round 2:
Marini lands a big right followed by a combo. Gorny lands a combo of his own before tying up against the ropes. The two separate and Gorny lands a pair of big rights followed by a solid body kick. Gorny lands another big right and a left followed by a body shot. Marini lands a leg kick and a combo. Gorny turns up the heat with a leg kick followed by a body kick and a trio of leg kicks. Gorny lands a right followed by another leg kick and another right. A big overhand right clips Marini and Marini has had enough and secures a double leg takedown landing in side control. Gorny spins out and gets to his knees. Marini climbs onto his back and Gorny picks him up and slams him to the mat but Marini is able to sink in a rear naked choke forcing Gorny to tap out.

Zach Blaber vs Devon Neis
Round 1:
Blaber catches a leg kick from Neis and proceeds to dump him to the mat with a big slam. Neis gets back to his feet only to have Blaber slam him to the mat once again. Blaber lands shots before the two get back to their feet. Blaber looks to execute another slam but Neis is able to fend it off. Neis gets a takedown ending up in half guard and landing a few shots before Blaber briefly gets back to his feet. Balber secures a takedown of his own and lands in side control before moving to north/south position. Blaber finally transitions to the back and Neis spins into the guard and passes to side control. Blaber escapes and gets to side control with Neis on all fours. Blaber lands a few shots before Neis is able to get back to his feet. Blaber gets him right back down to side control and lands knees to the body. The fighters get back to their feet and Blaber lands a few big rights. Neis throws a knee that is caught by Blaber but Neis is able to scramble to side control and lands a few elbows before the end of the round. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Blaber

Round 2:
Both fighters exchange heavy shots with Neis getting the worst of it, emerging with a bloodied nose. Blaber presses Neis against the ropes and is able to secure a single leg and quickly moves to his back. Blaber moves to side control and lands a knee to the body. Neis tries to get back to his feet but Blaber is able to stay heavy and keep Neis on the ground. Neis scrambles and gets Blaber into his guard. Blaber postures up and rains down a pair of big rights and a body shot. Blaber stands up and passes to side control before transitioning to full mount. Neis gives up his back and Blaber lands a few heavy shots. Blaber sinks his hooks unleashes a huge left that forces Neis spin, giving Blaber full mount. Blaber takes the opportunity to land several huge rights forcing referee Vern Gorman to step in and rescue Neis from any further punishment giving Blaber his 4th straight stoppage.

Cody Krahn vs Tim Skidmore
The two trade leg kicks before Krahn lands a solid right. Skidmore answers with a solid punch of his own and Krahn takes him down. Skidmore attempts to scramble back to his feet but Krahn takes his back and sinks in a bar arm choke forcing Skidmore to tap out giving Krahn his 6th straight win and prompting a step up in competition. Krahn announces in the post fight interview that he will take on Top MMA News 9th ranked Canadian Middleweight, Chase Degenhardt at TFC 12 on December 10.

Corey Lautischer vs Adam Bodwell
Lautischer lands a few solid jabs and Bodwell immediately looks for a takedown but gets caught in a guillotine attempt. The two fall to the mat with Bodwell still trapped in the submission attempt. Lautischer sinks the choke a little tighter and Bodwell finally loses conciousness and referee steps in to pull Lautischer off his opponent.

Cory Knapp vs Mike Davis
Davis lands a jab and Knapp follows up with a leg kick. Davis lands a few big rights which prompts Knapp to tie up and pull guard. Davis lands a few shots from the guard before passing to half guard. Davis lands a few big elbows forcing Knapp to give up his back. Davis sinks in the rear naked choke and Knapp quickly taps out giving Davis his 5th win in his last 6 and his second submission victory over Knapp.

    Much Respect to all the fighters. I am glad to see Luke Harris fighting again. Tim great job my friend, Brad is very proud of you.
