TFC 11: Full Force Recap


Top MMA News was cageside for TFC Full Force at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton, Alberta last night. With only one fight going the distance, the fans were treated to several devastating finishes and two title fights in an action packed evening.

Top MMA News Knockout of the night award goes to Max Dalsin for his vicious knees that sent Darcy Boizard crashing to the mat in the first round of their welterweight bout improving Dalsin’s record to 4-2. The award for Fight of the Night goes to the only female bout of the evening between Sy Jewitt and Rachael Swatez. The ladies went toe to toe for 3 rounds which resulted in Jewitt being awarded a controversial split decision win.

The Canadian Lightweight Title was not the only honor undefeated Mitch Clarke picked up last night as he was also awarded Top MMA News Submission of the Night. After ducking under a big shot from Machan, Clarke unleashed a huge suplex and used it to take the back and sink in a rear naked choke rendering Machan unconscious and extending his win streak to 8 in a row.

Martin Desilets vs Victor Valimaki
After a brief feeling out process, Desilets presses forward with a quick combo against the cage. Valimaki escapes to the center but Desilets again presses forward with another lightning quick combo that drops Valimaki, forcing the referee to step in and call a halt to the bout giving Desilets his 4th straight win and allowing him to retain the TFC World Light Heavyweight Title.

Josh Machan vs Mitch Clarke
Round 1:
The two fighters feel each other out before Machan lands a left followed by a combo against the cage. Clarke secures a takedown and lands in side control. Clarke lands a few elbows before Machan gets back to his feet. Clarke again secures a single leg takedown and lands in side control before moving to north/south position. Clarke pins the arm to the mat and lands shots before Machan is able to replace half guard. Clarke moves to side control and Machan again gets back to half guard. Clarke sinks in a guillotine. The referee looks to step in to stop the fight but Machan waves him off and gives a thumbs up. Clarke looks for a far side armbar but Machan defends. Clarke gets back to his feet but eats a few upkicks before falling back into the guard of Machan. Clarke lands a handful of huge rights from inside the guard until the bell sounds to end the round.

Round 2:
Machan opens with a wild looping shot but Clarke ducks under the punch and sends Machan crashing hard to the mat with a beautiful suplex. Machan is briefly dazed, long enough for Clarke to wrap his arms around the neck and sink in the rear naked choke. The referee finally steps in when he see Machan lose consciousness. After the fight Clarke calls out Curtis Demarce who he was initially scheduled to fight for the title.

Markhaile Wedderburn vs Ryan McGillivray
Round 1:
Wedderburn opens with a leg kick and McGillivray responds with a combo. Wedderburn lands a glancing head kick and McGillivray bullies him into the cage. Wedderburn lands body shots before McGillivray secures a trip takedown landing in side control. Wedderburn scrambles but McGillivray gets back to side mount, to mount and finally takes his back. McGillivray rolls to mount briefly but gets right back to Wedderburn’s back. McGillivray secures a rear naked choke before transitioning to an arm triangle from mount. Wedderburn gives up his back and again has to fight off a rear naked choke. Wedderburn elbows to the thigh of McGillivray until the end of the round.

Round 2:
McGillivray pushes forward, looking for a takedown but it’s defended against the cage. McGillivray finally is able to secure the double leg landing in half guard before passing to full mount. Wedderburn gets back to his guard and lands a few shots before McGillivray throws his legs up looking for a triangle. McGillivray switches to an armbar and induces the quick tapout from Wedderburn. This win should cement McGillivray as a top contender for the now vacant TFC Welterweight Title.

Ryan Machan vs James McCutcheon
Machan lands a left jab and McCutcheon responds with a leg kick. Machan lands a right followed by a left uppercut. Machan ties up with McCutcheon and lands a few knees in the clinch. Machan presses him against the cage and lands a few body shots. A big combo from Machan drops McCutcheon, Machan jumps on top and lays into him with several dozen shots until the referee has seen enough and pulls him off.

Chuck Pelc vs Rio Wells
Round 1:
Pelc fires away with a head kick to open the fight and Wells responds with a take down landing in guard. Wells lands a few shots before taking his back. Wells moves to side control and the two are at a stalemate on the ground. Wells takes his back again before Pelc gets back to his feet but is dragged right back down with Wells still on his back. Pelc spins and gets to half guard. Wells moves to north/south and Pelc is able to escape to his feet and Wells lands a knee to the groin. Pelc takes a few minutes to recover before the referee restarts the fight. Pelc lands a leg kick and Wells presses forward with a flurry of punches. Pelc shoots for a takedown but Wells scrambles and ends up on top in half guard. Wells takes Pelcs back and pounds away before transitioning to mount. Wells lands a trio of big elbows and Pelc manages to escape the first round as the bell sounds.

Round 2:
Pelc lands a leg kick and Wells drops him with a huge right. Wells pounces on top and the two ex-football player scramble until Wells takes Pelcs back. Pelc spins to guard and Wells hammers away with heavy shots until the referee steps in to rescue Pelc from any further punishment. Wells stays undefeated but is taken to the second round for the first time in his MMA career.

Rachael Swatez vs Sy Jewett
Round 1:
Swatez comes out aggressive and looks for a takedown but gets caught in a guillotine. Swatez pulls her head out and gets back to her feet. Swatez secures a takedown to half guard and Jewett sweeps and gets back to her feet. Spinning back kick from Jewett connects. Swatez presses Jewett into the cage and the two jockey for position until Swatez lands a knee to the head against the cage. Jewett lands foot stomps and the two separate. Jewett lands a side kick and misses with another spinning back kick. After a brief tie up Jewett breaks free and misses a spinning back fist attempt. Jewett lands a body kick followed by a spinning back kick. Swatez ducks under a spinning back fist attempt and secures a double leg takedown as the round ends. Round 2:
Jewett misses a spinning back kick and Swatez presses her into the cage. The two seperate and Jewett lands a right followed by a combo. Swatez presses Jewett into the cage again and the ladies jockey for position. Jewett grabs a side headlock and lands more foot stomps. Swatez looks to jump on the back but Jewett fights her off. Swatez lands shots from behind until Jewett escapes and lands a combo. Swatez presses Jewett into the fence and secures a single leg. Swatez easily passes to full mount, postures up and rains down several heavy shots until the round ends. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Swatez

Round 3:
Jewett lands a big right and Swatez responds with a leg kick. Jewett lands a big elbow and Swatez presses Jewett into the cage. The two seperate and Swatez looks for a double leg after ducking under a spinning back kick from Jewett but it’s stuffed. The fight returns to the feet and Jewett lands a combo before Swatez secures the takedown, landing in guard. Swatez passes to mount and then to the back. Swatez looks for a rear naked choke. Swatez defends and eventually escapes out the back and to her feet. Swatez attempts and single leg but it’s defended and met with body shots from Jewett. The two separate and Jewett lands a solid spinning back kick to the body. Jewett loses her balance and Swatez takes advantage, jumping on top and pounds away in mount until the bell sounds. Sy Jewett defeats Rachael Swatez via Split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28)

Max Dalsin vs Darcy Boizard
Dalsin opens with a big combo of rights and lefts followed by a body shot. Dalsin secures a guillotine attempt before releasing and controlling the arm to land a few shots. Boizard looks for a takedown but Dalsin rolls through and ends up in full mount. Boizard gets back to his feet and Dalsin lands several huge knees that send Boizard crashing to the mat. Dalsin follows up with a shot on the ground before the ref steps in to call a halt to the bout.

Adam Bodwell vs Reece Chapman
The two come out and exchange shots before Chapman locks up a guillotine attempt. Bodwell escapes and looks for a guillotine of his own. Both fighters fall to the mat with Chapman landing in Bodwell’s guard with his head still trapped in the guillotine attempt. Bodwell works the body with punches until Chapman escapes back to his feet. Bodwell clinches and lands a knee before securing another guillotine attempt. Chapman grabs a single leg and it’s stuffed. Bodwell mounts and lands big looping shots. Chapman leaves his neck exposed and Bodwell locks in a tight guillotine. Chapman defends but eventually the referee steps in as he loses consciousness.

Dean Cox vs Steve Beaumont
Beaumont lands a body kick and a flurry of punches forcing Cox to tie up. The two trade knees to the body before Cox executes a hip toss and lands in side control. Beaumont lands body shots and powers out back to half guard. Beaumont postures up and lands several shots to the body and head. Beaumont lands a few short elbows before the ref calls a timeout to warn Beaumont about a 12 to 6 elbow. Cox lands a leg kick and a push after the restart. Beaumont unleashes a flurry of punches and secures a takedown and looks for an armbar. Cox defends but Beaumont mounts and rains down huge shots until the referee steps in to rescue Cox from any further damage. Very impressive debut by Beaumont.

    Swatez definitely beat Jewett. The judges definitely let style impress them over substance.
    Swatez won that fight either 30-27 or 29-28 as TMN had it.
    Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought Jewett made a comment to that extent.
