RITC 40 Play by Play – Decision Time for High and Mein


Here is the RITC 40 play by play live from Taber, Alberta.

Jordan Mein vs. Jason High
R1. The two lock up right away and Mein takes High down. High has Mein pretty much locked up in a half butterfly guard. Mein passes to side but High escapes. Mein lands some good knees while pushing High against the cage. Then Mein takes High down again. High walks the cage and gets to his feet. High going for a Guillotine and ends up in full mount. High then gets Mein’s back and is dropping punches with a minute left. High is dropping elbows and Mein is in a bad position. High finishes the round on top of Mein. R2. High shoots in and slams Mein down and has side control on Mein. Mein escapes to his feet and Mein takes High down. Mein is in High’s half guard. Mein lands a couple short elbows and keeps High pinned against the fence. High gets Mein back in his full guard. Nice hammer fist by Mein but High escpaes but eats a knee. The two scramble and Mein has side control on Mein. Two minutes left. Mein is controlling High but not inflicting damage. Some short rights by Mein but High escapes. Minute left and Mein lands an elbow and a couple of knees on High. High looked to be in a little bit of trouble. Mein going for a knee bar. Round ends with High landing some shots on the ground. R3. Quite the exciting grappling chess match so far. High misses a high kick. Mein looks fresher. High takes Mein down rather easily. High is in Mein’s half guard. High keeps Jordan down and is holding top position. Three minutes left and High lands some lefts. Mein can not get off his back. A few rights from half guard by High. Mein works to full guard and High is fighting in a very safe Body Shop fashion here landing some punches from full guard. Mein attempts an Arm Bar, but High gets Mein’s back. Fight ends. Jason High defeats Jordan Mein by Unanimous Decision

Brendan Blacquier vs. Francois Bourassa
Blacquier takes down Bourassa immediately. Bourassa, who trains himself, is full mounted but he tries for a Guillotine. Blacquier pulls his head out and drops huge hands and elbows to Bourassa. Fight is stopped. Another weak pro matchup.

Mark Aparicio vs. Brandon MacArthur (pro)
Pink shorted MacArthur starts with a couple leg kicks. The two clinch and Aparicio is going for a takedown. MacArthur goes for the Guillotine but loses it. Another Guillotine attempt by MacArthur but he loses it. Arm Bar attempt and Aparicio taps out. MacArthur improves to 4-15.

Sean Merkl vs. Taylor Bull (pro)
Right hand by Bull backs Merkl off the bat, but Merkl lands a bigger one in return that drops the 6 ft 5 Bull. Merkl jumps on Bull and KOs him with vicious ground ‘n pound.

Eric Montgomery vs. Jesse Seberg (pro)
Montgomery slips executing a head kick right away. Montgomery lands three hard leg kicks which topple Seberg. Seberg turtles up and Montgomery lands hard rights before the ref ends it. Montgomery stays undefeated, while Seberg does not impress.

Peter Neufeld vs. Shon Cottrel (pro kickboxing)
R1. Pro kickboxing with MMA gloves? Here we go. The two KBers throwing hard punches. Cottrel is throwing hard hooks which generally miss. Front kick by Neufeld who has the reach advantage here. Nice straights from Neufeld. Cottrel keeps missing his big looping rights. Finally a big right lands and drops Neufeld. Standing 8. Spinning back kick to end round by Neufeld. R2. Big right by Cottrel stuns Neufeld. Cottrel is dictating the fight right now and Neufeld is bleeding through the nose and Cottrel knocks Neufeld down again with a big right. Standing 8. Cottrel lands a kick to the groin and the fight stops. Starts up again and the two are trading in the middle of the cage. Neufeld lands some nice kicks but another right backs up Neufeld. R3. Deep breath by Cottrel to start off the round. Cottrel rocks Neufeld with a straight left. Big right hurts Neufeld as Cottrel stalks him. Another right stumbles Neufeld. Neufeld then lands a nice combination and Cottrel runs away. The two re-engage and Cottrel’s hard rights are causing problems for Neufeld. Shon Cottrel defeats Peter Neufeld by Unanimous Decision

Brandi Merritt vs. Wendy Unger (amateur)
Merritt throws a jumping side kick and then an axe kick, but Unger catches the last one and takes Merritt down. Unger gets the mount and drops a bunch of punches. Merritt gives up her back and Unger flattens her down. Unger is in full mount and Merritt is taking a lot of punches. Unger has back again and Merritt taps out.

Ian Odland vs. Nathan Harrison (Amateur)
Fighters come out and Odland lands a low kick to the groin of Harrison. Time out! Back fighting and the Harrison utilizes some nice low kicks, side kicks, and a front kick. Odland goes for punches but cannot get inside. Harrison lands a nice knee. Harrison takes down Odland but Odland gets to feet only to be suplexed by Harrison. Harrison has his back and has a body triangle locked. RNC and Odland is out.

Maged Hammo vs. Kyle Wilson (Amateur)
R1. Wilson looks to tap gloves but throws a dirty punch instead. BOO! The two trade at a fast pace to start. Amateurs generally have a problem pacing themselves. The two are standing with Hammo landing more than Wilson. Wilson is looking a bit tired with three minutes left. Hammo lands a nice leg kick and presses forward. Big right hand by Hammo wobbles Wilson. Wilson responds as his legs stabilize. Pace slows but the two still throw. Hammo using an effective right leg kick this round. Wilson lands some hard shots to Hammo’s face at the end of the round. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Hammo

R2. Wilson looking sharper in the second round so Hammo goes for a takedown. Wilson grabs the cage for a second time this fight and the ref correctly takes a point away from him. Wilson easily shrugs off a takedown attempt. The two brawl and both connect at times. Hammo lands some nice strikes and Wilson needs to work harder to finish this fight or he will get the loss. A minute left and Wilson is pressing the action but not landing much. Nice left by Wilson but Hammo takes him down and lands some punches. Virgil Robinson vs. Ty James Collier (Amateur)
Robinson looks anxious to throw and is in much better shape than Collier. Robinson pounds on Collier against the cage. Robinson lands several kicks cleanly and is easily outstriking Collier with power punches. Collier is outclassed. Ref stops in ends the fight.

Kyle Coleman vs. Dwight Chowace (Amateur)
R1. Chowace has huge size advantage and comes out swinging. Coleman absorbs a bit of punishment including some good kicks. Coleman takes his opponent down to the canvas but Chowace walks up the cage, get underhooks, and throws a pair of nice knees. Takedown by Coleman and he works to side control and throws some knees Chowace’s body. Chowace gets up and slams Coleman down to the cage impressively. Chowace finishes the round throwing some ground ‘n pound. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Chowace

R2. Chowace stuffs takedown and then works from Coleman’s half guard. Chowace on COleman’s back dropping rights. Coleman turns and Chowace has the full mount and continues dropping bombs. Ref steps in and ends the fight. Chowace is an impressive amateur!

Garrett Raines vs Trevor Reid (Amateur)
Fury to start the fight. Reid, sporting quite the farmer’s tan, gives more than he gets and even drops Raines to his knees once. Reid goes for a Guillotine but nothing comes of it. The two amateurs start brawling again and the two are slowing down. Take down by Raines who gets Reid’s back. Raines gets the RNC.

Mike Hansen vs Kyle Fortch (Amateur)
Nice back and forth fight where the two traded for a bit before Hansen locked on a Guillotine to end the fight.
