Canadian Doctors Vote to Ban MMA
At the Canadian Medical Association’s national conference today, a majority of doctors voted in favor of banning Mixed Martial Arts. According to Global TV, 84% of the doctors in attendance voted in favor of the proposal brought forth by British Columbia doctors. The vote was held in in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Ironically, Ontario recently legalized MMA and expect a UFC show to be held there in 2011.
Dr. Gordon Mackie originally brought forward this motion to the BC Medical Association due to the chance of brain injury to MMA fighters due to repetitive blows to the head.
As MMA becomes legalized in more and more provinces, doctors hope they become a strong voice against the dangerous sport. Doctors did not vote on banning other sports at the conference.
