Edmonton Fight Scene Fan Expo: Press Conference

Despite the fact that the fight scene in Edmonton is so popular there is still a lot of room for growth and that’s exactly what Organizers Dean Panas, Jason Bouwmeester and Ken Franczek had in mind when they decided to put together the Edmonton Fight Scene Fan Expo. Dean Panas sees a lot of the same people at the various MMA events however rarely sees many new faces and The Edmonton Fan Expo is a means to buck the trend. Dean, Jason and Ken want fans to be able to connect with the person as well as the fighter. With fans getting to know the fighters on a more personal level he feels the fans will be more inclined to get out to the fights to cheer on those fighters. Many fans have no idea that these events are happening in and around Edmonton unless they know someone who is competing in the events.

In addition to the seven MMA promotions that hold events on a regular basis, there are also three Boxing Promotions as well as a Muay Thai promotion that also organize fight cards in and around the Edmonton area. With so many great promotions Edmonton is becoming a hotbed for combat sports in Canada.

The Edmonton Fight Scene Fan Expo will host a who’s who of Combat Sports in Edmonton. From the boxing world, former three time World Champion Jelena Mrdjenovich, 2008 Canadian Olympic Boxing team member and current Canadian Middleweight Champion Adam Trupish, Canadian Light Middleweight and WBA Fedecaribe Light Middleweight Champion Kris Andrews and the “oldtimer” of the bunch, The “Canadian-American-Mexican” and WBB Heavyweight Champion Sheldon Hinton who also promotes local boxing events.

In attendance at the Fan Expo from the MMA side of things will be arguably one of the highest profile fighters in Canada and former TFC World and Canadian Welterweight Champion Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford, 4 Time UFC Veteran and Former KOTC Canada Heavyweight Champion Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague, 2 Time UFC Veteran and Former MFC and TFC Light Heavyweight Champion Victor Valimaki, MFC Light Heavyweight contender and one of the biggest personalities in the sport Ryan “The Big Deal” Jimmo.

In addidtion to those Champions and title contendors The Fan Expo will also play host to a few multi-dicipline athletes as three time Muay Thai Champion and MMA Newcomer Mukai Maromo will be in attendance. Also in attendance will be Nick “The Quiet Assassin” Penner who is the only athlete in Canada to have competed professionally in MMA, Boxing and Muay Thai.

With more than 15 Championships and over 150 wins between the 10 featured athletes, Edmonton is still without a doubt “The City Of Champions” and the Fight Capital of Canada. Whether a fan, fighter or just someone who is curious about the Edmonton Fight Scene, this is the event will have all the answers to your questions.

Come on out to the Edmonton Fight Scene Fan Expo on August 15, 2010 at 1pm and for only $10 you can meet some of the most colorful personalities in the sport and have a chance to win some great prizes too.
