AFC Announces Broadcast Agreement with CHEK TV
With their upcoming third event – AFC 3: Evolution, Saturday, July 17th, 2010 – the organization will see their shows delivered to 3.5 million homes across British Columbia, as well as CHEK’s 2.9 million satellite subscribers.
Following their debut event last August, the AFC signed a similar broadcast agreement with The Fight Network, the Canadian combat sports cable channel, which available in more than 1.6 million homes from coast-to-coast.
This new partnership with CHEK TV makes the AFC available in more than 8 million homes across the country, giving the Victoria-based organization the largest television broadcast deal for a mixed martial arts company in Canada.
This is the latest in a series of strategic moves made by AFC owners Darren Owen and Jason Heit to bring their brand of mixed martial arts to the masses.
While still in its infancy, Armageddon Fighting Championships has quickly garnered recognition throughout the MMA community for the quality of their events and ability to deliver exciting matchups, and AFC 3 promises more of the same.
The upcoming event will feature the debut of 2005 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion Robert Drysdale, and the first title fight in AFC history. Former Victoria Rebel Nick Hinchliffe will square off with five-time UFC veteran and former Ultimate Fighter cast member Kalib Starnes to determine the first AFC Middleweight Champion.
Signing a broadcast partnership with CHEK TV extends the AFC’s television presence, a presence that will only be bolstered by the company’s upcoming appearance on CBC’s hit show Dragon’s Den.
Set to air sometime in September, Owen and Heit travelled to Toronto to pitch their product to the show’s dragons, a collection of Canadian business luminaries who can choose to invest in the ideas brought before them. Both Owen and Heit have remained tight-lipped on whether or not the AFC piqued the interest of any of the dragons.
Either way, their newly announced partnership with Victoria’s biggest broadcast gives the AFC a tremendous television reach that can only bring them closer to their goal of becoming one of the sports premier organizations.
CHEK TV will broadcast the AFC’s previous event, AFC 2: Aftershock, on Friday July 9th at 8pm as an introduction to the sport in advance of AFC 3.
AFC 3: Evolution takes at Saturday, July 17th at Bear Mountain Arena and is available via webcast at www.armageddonfc.com.
