Boots Scraps – 1st Week of Training in NYC-NJ
My first week of training camp for my UFC debut is going great! Pat, Steph and I drove down Sunday night to NYC. On Monday Steph and I did a no-gi jiu jitsu class taught by John Danaher and then some rolling with the guys. Few hours later Steph and I had the honor to be taught a private class by John Danaher! He is an incredible BJJ\MMA instructor and we went through some strategies and techniques that I will be using in my fight. After the training, we took the night easy and got to watch Ironman 2.
On Tuesday morning we drove out to Trenton, NJ to Ricardo Almeida’s gym. Steph and I did the MMA training session for 2 hours; MMA sparring, rolling, wrestling and clinch work. I got the chance to work with Ricardo, Dante Riviera and some other the students there. All of them helped me out a lot! Then we headed out to NYC to have another great private class with John D!
This morning we woke up nice and early to go train with the Rutgers NJ wrestling team with Ricardo and Frankie. I got great training in wrestling with all the guys there and even got the chance to train with the UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar! It was the first time I ever met him, he is a really nice guy and helped me out, gave me tips and advice for my UFC debut. What an honor!
Now we are heading back to NYC to train with John again and I will have the opportunity to do some striking training with Jamie Crowder.
This training camp is kicking off just right for me, thanks to Pat taking me here and giving me all these opportunities of getting me to train the best instructors and fighters in the business!
I will let you guys know how the rest of my week goes soon. I will also let you guys know how the fights go this Friday night; I will be cornering Garry Ghilchrist and Jeff Chan, two OAMA Muay Thai fighters.
And once again, thank you for all the support, messages and encouragement, I really appreciate it and means a lot to me! It still hasn’t settled in yet that I will be fighting in the UFC, its so overwhelming! Took me by such surprise its crazy!
Take care everyone!
