  3. 70 yr old vs 50 yr old.

I emailed the Moncton commission to see if this fight will get sanctioned and what medical tests does a 70 year old need to pass. No response yet.

Top MMA News was told that this is not a work but a real fight by the promoter. Keep in mind that the 50 yr old is a former pro wrestler.

  4. Graham Walker, who is head of the Moncton Commission, got back to me.

No meds yet, they have not sanctioned the fight, and they have not consulted their commission doctor.

Uhhh… what??? Seriously? Maybe they should see if that guy with no arms and no legs is available to co-headline.

Its far from a joke , i live in the maritimes , i trained at team saigo with gunshi Williams , this is not your normal 70 year old man , he bench presses 360 , does the entire pec deck then adds weight , runs 5 miles a day , and is a master of the arts , 55 years of martial arts and is a grand master recgonized worldwide , the problem is people seem to look at the number of a persons age and assume , this man is a true role model to what the sport is really all about , what living a clean life , seriously committing yourself to being the best you can be can result in , the guy hes fighting is a 260 lb monster with no neck , anyone that thinks this is a joke should look into the mirror and hope they can achieve something even close to this when they get to their older years.

  9. Gunshi Williams says:

hhhmmmmm? Just to clarify about what Keith Grienke wrote: “Graham Walker, who is head of the Moncton Commission, got back to me.

No meds yet, they have not sanctioned the fight, and they have not consulted their commission doctor.”

I have taken medicals under the commission doctor and other ones for over a year! You name it, I took it, far more than they require of any other fighter,I passed everything with flying colors, and on the night of the introduction, before I announced the fight in the cage before the fans, both the commision doctor and the Commission director Graham Walker told me they would allow the fight,we are now setting up the card, then it will be officially sanctioned (this week)
So! The fight has been in the works for over a year, it is not a freak show, I don’t need a walker and one of us are going to get hurt, and we will post the fight so we can be judged, if we turn out to be bums, we will have to live with it, if not, then whatever comes our way will be earned.
What I am saying is there is a big difference between a person who took care of his body and one who smokes, drinks, does drugs and never trains, hopefully all my doubters will at least allow me to show that difference in the greatest arena in the world today, the sport of mma.

  10. Let us know what’s up John.

I stand by my comment. Walker’s last email stated,

“The Commission has not dealt with this issue to this point–no medicals have been received by the Commission and we have not consulted with the Commission Doctor, no eye tests as yet which have to be completed, so at this time it is only a rumor”

  11. James Locke says:

I’m proud of the old fellas. Go in there and put on a good show. Show the fans what martial arts is all about.

I grew up watching Kung Fu movies and watched old guys kick the crap out of each other on the big screen. As far as I am concerned a well diciplined martial artist will be able to defend himself through the art until the day he passes to the next world.

I look forward to seeing a sanction and watching this fight vid!

  12. Dean Blais says:

I’ll fight you Mike, seems like a worthy Co Main event for this joke card. Ron Van Cliff called he wants a title shot. You should see if Jim Brown and Jeff Blatnik are available to commentate.

  16. I have to speak frank about this, and I think this is the stupidest thing to ever happen in Canadian Mixed Martial Arts.

Stay tuned for more on this.

NO other athletic commission in North America would even consider such a thing.

This is an embarrasement for the Moncton Boxing Commission as well as their parent organization the ever awesome Canadian Boxing Federation.

  22. Ken Miarecki says:

Before people say things, they should stop and think. Take a look at this page on Jack LaLanne and notice what he did at 70.
How many 40 year olds do you know that will try this? Good luck, John

  23. I appreciate old guys pulling off feast like this, but swimming and pulling a boat at 70 doesn’t put the sport of mixed martial arts at risk.

An alleged legitimate athletic commission sanctioning this is the joke.

i think John is great! Just dont’ want to see anybody starting an MMA fighting career at this point.

that is what the joke is and it demeans what some of us are trying to accomplish in this country.

Why do you think nobody is giving it any attention in the media?

  24. Mike Davis says:

this may sound harsh but most people that age should not be driving let alone fighting, there reaction time is not the same when they get this age. Great he does a lot of amazing things but when someone is going hit him in the face is he capable of reacting quick enough to stop it……my guess is not and something bad is going to happen.
