Top MMA News Breaks Down MFC 25
Maximum Fighting Championship have outdone themselves with their upcoming MFC 25 card on May 7th. Live from the Edmonton Expo Center and on HD Net, this is a show that is not to be missed. Together with UFC 113 on May 8th in Montreal, MFC 25 will kick off the biggest Canadian MMA weekend ever. Mark Pavelich has pulled out all of the stops to compile the best lineup from a Canadian promoter since the TKO/UCC days. As always, Top MMA News encourages its readers to support our Canadian promotions as there is nothing like live MMA! On to the break down!
Thales Leites vs Jesse Taylor
Thales Leites is the jewel of the MFC Middleweights and is on a two fight win streak. Jesse Taylor is coming in off a win in his first trip to Edmonton – a submission over Jason Day in less than a minute. Wrestling is Taylor’s game and he will try to put Leites on his back. However, 80% of his JT Money’s losses come by submission. Top MMA News feels that Leites has too much game for Taylor to handle. Leites can win this on his feet or on the ground. Look for Leites to dominate positionally and score the win.
Keith Grienke – Leites by Unanimous Decision
Marc-Andre Drolet – Leites by Sub Round 2
Ryan Jimmo vs Wilson Gouveia
Gouveia wants to rebound after leaving the UFC after two losses in their Middleweight division. Jimmo wants the respect he deserves after reeling off twelve straight wins. Jimmo has tremendous wrestling and Gouveia will not be able to take him down. Jimmo also showed in the third round of his last fight that his striking is very effective as he picked Newton apart after two rounds of clinching.
Top MMA News feels that Jimmo will control the fight, keep it on the feet, and use the confidence of a 12 fight win streak, and win the decision in the biggest fight of his career.
Keith Grienke and Marc-Andre Drolet – Jimmo by Unanimous Decision
Dwayne Lewis vs Emanuel Newton
Newton is coming into this fight having lost three in a row since taking the MFC Light-Heavyweight title from Roger Hollett. Do not let that fool you as two of those losses were against Prangley and Jimmo and they were very close decisions. There is no doubt that Newton will want to take Lewis to the mat, while Lewis will want to unload with those big hands of his that have given him seven straight victories.
Keith Grienke – Newton will be able take Lewis down once in a while, but will eventually be caught by a Lewis right. Lewis will jump on him for a TKO GNP win.
Marc-Andre Drolet – Lewis will win the decision in the Fight of the Night
Pete Spratt vs Luigi Fioravanti
A very good matchup by MFC. Spratt is a great striker and Luigi will want to take him down onto his back. That is everyone’s game plan against Spratt. The question is can he do it continually? If he comes in out of shape or gets sloppy, Luigi will be on the canvas.
Keith Grienke – Spratt will catch Fioravanti. Spratt KO in Round 2.
Marc-Andre Drolet – Fioravanti will take Spratt down and TKO him. TKO Round 2.
Richie Hightower vs Gavin Neil
The 7-1 Neil is facing his biggest challenge in the 7-3 Hightower since losing to Ryan Machan. The ZUMA fighter will definitely come in prepared as his Adam Zugec team just does not lose. Hightower is dropping down to 155 after beating Jordan McKay at TFC last year. Top MMA News feels that Hightower will come out striking for the early advantage. However, that is where we are split. Marc believes Neil’s dominant striking will prevail, while Keith believes that the bright lights and pressure of being live on HD Net may be too much for Neil’s nerves and Hightower strikes will catch Neil early. Lets hope coaches Adam Zugec and teammate Sarah Kaufman can settle him down.
Marc-Andre Drolet – Neil TKO in Round 2. ZUMA does not lose and Neil has dominant striking.
Keith Grienke – Hightower TKO in Round 1. Neil will be caught off guard by early Hightower pressure.
Ryan Fortin vs Chase Gormley
Top MMA News was very impressed with Ryan Fortin in his loss to Nick Penner at MFC 23. Fortin heavily damaged Penner and he only had one good ankle! Gormley is coming from the UFC where he lost the only two fights of his career and then was released. Our Heads say Gormley, who put on a rather uninspiring performance at MFC 16 against Pele, will use his experience to overwhelm Fortin. However, our hearts say Fortin will not injure himself getting into the ring like he did at MFC 23 and use his brute strength to beat Gormley and get the KO or TKO.
Keith Grienke and Marc-Andre Drolet – Fortin TKO by Angry Hulk Smash
