Canada’s First Certified MMA Officials Trainer
The Manitoba Boxing Commission is pleased to announce that head official and mixed martial arts referee Jerin Valel is the first certified MMA Official course trainer in Canada. Jerin Valel has recently passed the COMMAND MMA Referee and Judging Training School trainer’s course by pioneer and recognized longtime MMA Referee Big John McCarthy. COMMAND is the only nationally recognized training and certification program offered in North America for mixed martial arts referees and judges.
“This achievement will assist in bringing a new standard in MMA referees and judge’s in Canada which currently lacks minimum standards,” says Manitoba Boxing Commission Chairman, Dan Vandal.
“The complex technical details of the sport continue to grow at a rate similar to the sport’s popularity growth. It is mandatory that the officials keep up to date and have access to quality training and a resource that can competently answer their questions and inquires” says Jerin Valel.
The Manitoba Boxing Commission emphasizes the importance of safety and competence in the sport of MMA, and currently has the most certified MMA officials in Canada.
A number of Commissions have already expressed interest in the MMA referee and judge’s course certification and should be offered Canada-wide in the near future.
Jerin Valel will be seen next in action refereeing at the new Lets Get It On MMA event on April 23 in River Cree, Alberta and also June 4 in Winnipeg at the Canadian Fighting Championship 5 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
