Its Showtime for Undefeated Barnard at CFC 4
The undefeated Justin “Farmer” Barnard is taking a big step up in competition at the Canadian Fighting Championship tonight. The Winnipeg fighter is facing Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Barnard has kept his record clean at 5-0, so far, but Markhaile will easily be Farmer’s toughest test to date.
CFC matchmaker Marc-Andre Drolet commented on the fight,
“Both fighters really need this win. Barnard is undefeated and has momentum he is looking to build off of and Wedderburn is on a two fight slide and wants to show he is still a force to be reckoned with.”
Wedderburn has an 8-5 record and is a strong Muay Thai fighter whose biggest advantage may be his experience. Showtime has faced top Welterweights like Jason High, Ryan Ford and Dan Grandmaison, while Wedderburn will be the biggest name that Barnard has faced. Wedderburn, who holds a Welterweight belt from an Ontario promotion, is ready for the up ‘n coming Barnard, “I got a lot a new tricks for Justin to experience. I know he is going to be like a bull and come charging and if he plays that game I got a fat knee for him to deal with!” says Showtime, who recently returned from a trip to Thailand where he competed and trained in kickboxing.
Barnard, a member of Team Canada, has a strong ground game, which he has displayed victoriously at CFC 1 and 2 with wins over Brandon MacArthur and Nick Portieous, respectively. “It will suprise no one that my game plan is to take him down,” Barnard told Top MMA News. Barnard is not concerned with Wedderburn’s standup and believes that he will be able to submit Wedderburn to keep his record flawless. Barnard predicts a quick victory. “D’Arce Choke in the first round,” he says confidently.
As for Showtime, with two losses in a row, he wants to return to the land of top 170 lb Canadian fighters. He is not concerned with the Winnipeg crowd who may remember his highlight reel head kick KO at UCW a few years back. ” I have never lost in Winnipeg,” says Showtime. “I am 3-0 there and I won’t lose ever in the Peg. Winnipeg is my place. My fans. Stand up because your man is coming back. I put the spark in the Peg!”
Will Barnard ground out the win or will Showtime stop him in his tracks? Fans will find out tonight at CFC 4.
