Darcy James Out of KOTC Canada Title Fight
Darcy “The Worm” James (3-1-0) has dropped out of his KOTC Canada Lightweight title fight due to injury. Scheduled for March 12 at KOTC Uprising II in Nanaimo, BC, James was matched up against Adam Gabel(1-1-0) to fight for the title left vacant after the previous champ, Rory “The Waterboy” MacDonald (who successfully defended the title for three straight fights), moved up a weight class and into the UFC.
During a telephone interview, James told Top MMA News that he had broken ribs, “On Wednesday night, I was practising some grappling with a partner, I tried to roll up and pop just like that I’m out of the fight.a” Darcy thinks he will be out for at least 4 – 6 weeks before a possible fight in May 2010, held in Vancouver, BC. James also stated during the interview “I was really looking forward to the title opportunity, especially against a fighter like Adam [Gabel] and am really disappointed with the injury.”
It is unknown whether Adam Gabel will be fighting an alternate contender for the still vacant Lightweight title, given the interim title, or if the fight will be re-matched. However, when Top MMA News spoke with KOTC promoter John Cooper he stated “We are sorry to hear that Darcy James was injured and are working to secure a suitable opponent for Adam Gabel.” Let’s hope there is another Lightweight fighter ready and available to replace James in this main event.
