Top MMA News Breaks Down Strikeforce Miami Card

On Saturday January 30, Strikeforce makes its return to the Sunshine State with another stacked card filled with Championship gold and others trying to climb their way up the ladder into contention.

The Main Event features two fighters who are both riding  five fight win streaks.  Nick “Diablo”  Diaz will try to have the gold wrapped around his waist as he takes on Strikeforce newcomer and current Dream Welterweight Champion Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis. Also on the card, Women’s Lightweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos put her title on the line as she takes on MMA veteran  Marloes Coenen. With former NFL Star Herschel Walker and up and coming MMA star Bobby Lashley both making their Strikeforce debuts, Strike Force Miami will be an exciting night of fights.

Here is the Top MMA News break down of the event:

Nick Diaz (-312) vs. Marius Zaromskis (+210)
Nick Diaz has the advantage on the ground, but the standing game should be fairly even. Do not expect either fighter to shy away from throwing the leather, as both are tough and able to give and take a punch. This fight could go either way. If Diaz can keep Zaromskis down on the mat and work a submission, he could win but it’s unlikely as Zaromskis has good take down defence. Diaz tends to get frustrated when the fight is not going his way, so watch for Zaromskis to take advantage of this and either land a spinning back kick to the head or an over hand right. This chess match should end with Marius Zaromskis getting his hand raised and the Strikeforce Welterweight Championship belt placed around his waist.

Top MMA News Pick: Zaromskis KO in Round 3

Cristiane Cyborg Santos (833) vs. Marloes Coenen (+440)
Cyborg puts her title and eight fight win streak on the line against a top female contender in Marloes Coenen who is a veteran of 20 MMA bouts. Watch for Cyborg to take to the centre of the cage and push the pace as she should have an advantage with the stand up. Cyborg’s advantage with standing will be too much for Coenen. Even if the fight goes to the ground, Cyborg should be able to ground and pound her way to a first round win.

Top MMA News Pick: Cyborg TKO in Round 1

Robbie Lawler (+155) vs. Melvin Manhoef (-222)
“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler will be looking to bounce back from his loss to Jake Shield on June 2009. This fight could possibly be the KO of the Night. Both are very comfortable on their feet and are known as aggressive strikers.  Although Lawler may have faced some more well known fighters, he cannot be looking past the Dutch kickboxer Manhoef as he posses lightning fast knock out power in both his hands and feet. This fight could easily come down to who makes the first mistake and leaves himself open. Watch for Lawler to go from “Ruthless” to  “Wreckless” and Manhoef takes advantage and adds another win to his growing list of highlight reel knockouts.

Top MMA News Pick: Manhoef KO in Round 2

Herschel Walker vs. Greg Nagy
This fight features the much anticipated MMA debut of former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL standout Herschel Walker. This fight is the wild card fight on this card. Walker is coming from a good MMA Camp in American Kickboxing Academy.  Nagy is no house hold name in the MMA community with only 2 pro MMA fights. This fight should come down to the skills Walker has and how much will the 47 year old want it . Walker will want to use his football instincts to run through Nagy to put him on the canvas and ground and pound his way to victory.  Walker goes in for the take down in the first minute and ends the fight quickly.

Top MMA News Pick: Walker TKO in Round 1

Bobby Lashley vs. Wes Sims
Look to Wes Sims’ TUF 10 performance for the template on Lashley will win this fight.  The outmatched Sims was taken down by Justin Wren and quickly put to sleep.  Big Bobby Lashley will do the same. He will take Sims, who is taking this fight on very short notice, down easily and get the first round victory.

Top MMA News Pick: Lashley by Unanimous Decision

Joe Riggs (+235) vs. Jay Hieron (-357)
Hieron has been on a tear since losing to Brad Blackburn in 2007.  He faces Joe Riggs who has not appeared on Strikeforce since defeating Phil Baroni by decision last June.  Fight fans will appreciate EASports who will be showing this prelim fight live on their web site.  Look for Hieron, who trains at Xtreme Couture, to continue his two year unbeaten streak with his strength and conditioning advantage over Riggs.

Top MMA News Pick: Hieron by Unanimous Decision

Zaromskis and Diaz are equal on the feet? That’s crazy talk. Zaromskis is in another league when it comes to striking.

I disagree, have you seen Diaz’s latest fights? He has picked it up a notch, and gotten even more aggressive in his striking, particularly with body shots. Plus he has a monster chin.
