Top MMA News Goes to Wreck MMA

Sean Quinn pounds out Francois Lacombe at CFC 3.

This weekend Top MMA News will be following up it’s road trip last weekend to Edmonton, where MFC 23 and TFC 9 were covered, with a visit to Ottawa\Gatineau for WRECK MMAWreck MMA is holding their inaugural event this Saturday, December 12th at the Robert Guertin Arena in Gatineau, Quebec. The event will also feature a few other Top MMA News mainstays: the Monday Morning Matchmaker, Alex Caporicci, matchmakes WRECK and the Boots Scraps column is penned by Mark Holst who will be fighting on Saturday.  Tickets are almost sold out, but the last tickets can be found at

In the main event, there is a VERY solid matchup with Sean Pierson taking on Fabio Holanda (The ninth rated Welterweight in Canada ). These are two of the countries top Welterweights, and there could be big things in the works for both of these guys, with the winner having the shorter and quickest path to the big show.  Pierson, ranked just outside the top 10,  has recently had some dominating performances, while Fabio Holanda has fought top fighters such as Tiago Alves, Rich Clementi, and Alvin Robinson in his career.   Expect Pierson to try to bully Holanda and try to ground and pound him.  Black belt Holanda will probably work off his back trying to sub the stronger Pierson.

Grienk: Fabio Holanda Sub
Mad: Sean Pierson

Co-Main event has Top MMA News contributor Mark Holst taking on Nabil Khatib. Both of these fighters are from the Ottawa region and will have a strong following supporting them. Holst typically fights at 155 pounds and will be giving up about fifteen pounds against the heavier Khatib. Holst is a very technical striker, and Nabil is a grittier fighter.  Top MMA News has seen Holst take on and beat heavier opponents like Dave Zuniga in Muay Thai and expect Holst to win here.

Grienk: Holst Sub
Mad: Holst

Sean Quinn vs Nick Denis is a fight between Quinn, the #4 rated Bantamweight, and Denis, the #1 rated Featherweight (and arguably top Bantamweight now that he has fought at 135). This fight has the potential to be Fight of the Night with two of the country’s most exciting and highest ranked Bantamweights.  Denis, a Sengoku veteran, has some great hands (he has KO’d or TKO’d 90% of his opponents) and an underrated ground game.  Quinn is a strong wrestler who recently dominated the undefeated Francois Lacombe at CFC.  If Denis can keep this standing, Quinn will not have a chance.  If Quinn can takedown Denis and put him on his back, watch out !  This could be an upset.

Keith: Denis TKO
MAD: Quinn

Roland Delorme vs Remi Morvan.  Morvan is the #3 Rated Bantamweight whose only loss has come from to #1 rated Adrian Wooley. A year ago Morvan was an unkown undefeated up and comer. Morvan took out Sean Quinn and then fought Wooley for five rounds.  This year that unknown guy is Roland Delorme.  Delorme recently beat Stephane Denis in Winnipeg.  Delorme has strong Jiu-Jitsu and hopefully has added some striking to his game.  If Delorme hasn’t, it will be a short night for Rolly.

Keith: Morvan GNP
MAD: Morvan SUB

This card is well put together from top to bottom and WRECK is looking to position themselves as a solid up and coming promotion with a bright future.  Keep coming back to Top MMA News as all weighin and results will be posted on the site.
