Boots Scraps – I Already Made Weight !

WreckMMAPosterBig-323x500Hello everyone! I hope everybody is doing well! I had a great weekend of training! On Friday afternoon, Steph and I had a private session with World Champion Roger Gracie. Then Friday night, Kru Jeff and I coached the Muay Thai OAMA fighters against the fighters of Sudbury MMA. I was really proud of all our fighters, showing what OAMA Muay Thai is all about! It was a great night of fights and everyone did amazing! Then Saturday & Sunday, I took part in a six hour seminar taught by Braulio Estima and Roger Gracie! I had a lot of fun and learned so much!
I have three weeks left to train for my upcoming fight and I am happy to say that I made weight this morning! I am 169lbs! As everyone knows, I am fighting Nabil “The Thrill” Khatib at the Welterweight division, 170lbs.  This will be my first fight at this weight.
Throughout my fight career, 165lbs has been the heaviest weight class in which I have ever competed. I fought at 165lbs in the eight man tournament Canadian qualifier in Calgary for the Contender Asia series. The muay thai tournament’s winner was Alex Ricci or Jesse Miles and one of them will be representing Canada in the big show called The Contender Asia (kind of like the “Ultimate fighter” show but for Muay Thai). That night, my first fight was against Justin Jones and then my second fight was against Alex Ricci; even though fighting at 165lbs was a change for me, I still felt stronger then both of my opponents that night. As well, earlier this year I fought another fighter in the welterweight class; the tough and dangerous Dave Zuniga. That fight was at 160lbs, if I remember correctly. It was a very tough fight; it went back and forth for all five rounds! I watched the footage and I looked to be just as big as Dave and I did not get overpowered.

Unlike Alex, Justin and Dave; Nabil will be cutting weight down from 190lbs and on top of that, the fight is at 170lbs, and not 160 or 165lbs. I know I will not have strength on my side!

This will be a very tough fight for me because of the weight difference between my opponent and me. However, on the flip side, I am on weight three weeks before the fight and I will not have to cut any weight! I am very happy about that, no diet…no sauna! I have a huge smile on my face as I write this

I do not plan on cutting any weight for this fight, I feel really good and very healthy at this weight. I can eat what I want, I can train really hard and most importantly, I am not moody all the time!

I am looking forward to trading strikes with Nabil; I know he has a good chin and we will be putting on an exciting stand up clinic! Hopefully it will be the fight of the night!

Mark, so you think you will be giving up 15-20 lbs to Khatib on fight day?

Hi KOTC Fan, yes I believe I will be giving minimum 15-20lbs to Nabil Khatib on fight day, I heard he cuts down from 190-200lbs,so he will be min 15-20lbs heavier then me. On the flip side I wont have to suffer in the sauna or with the diet. I have been training really hard and I think im ready for the welterweight division.
