Hard Knocks Announces Grand Prix Tournament
Calgary’s Hard Knocks Fighting Championship will hold an 8 man professional tournament. The tournament will be a double elimination bracket with the winner taking home $10,000 and the title of Hard Knocks Grand Prix Champion!
Starting early in the new year on January 30th, the Calgary based promotion will host the quarter finals of the first 8 man tournament that will run over 3 events schedule to happen approximately 2 months a part. The second tournament, also spread over 3 cards, will begin the same night the first finalists compete for the championship.
Hard Knocks Fighting President Beamer Comfort said, “The grand prix idea is something I have wanted to do since we started the promotion…” Comfort thinks this kind of tournament based format is great for fighters and fans. “The tournament format allows fans to follow a fighter as he makes a name for himself by winning 3 fights in a row, the fighters on the other hand get a chance to win a title that really means something.” Comfort believes the tournament will quickly become a place that larger organizations look to find new talent. “This tournament is not going to be a cake walk. To win this title a fighter is gonna need to win 3 fights in a row against tough competition, not just win a fight against the current title holder in a regional promotion.”
Hard Knocks is currently taking entries for the tournament and will select the strongest entries and weight class to be the first generation of grand prix competitors. Comfort said, “Every club in Canada is invited to enter the best athlete they have in each weight class. We will pick the athletes that we think will give us the most exciting tournament and hopefully be ready to announce the lineup for the first tournament by early December.”
