John Doyle – Fighting for Two Countries in M-1 Challenge in 2009
Top MMA News has learned that John Doyle will be fighting for two different countries for M-1 Challenge in 2009. If you remember, Doyle was a last minute replacement at M-1 Challenge 16. Doyle replaced Abdullah Ahmady for Team Turkey with less than 24 hours notice after Kansas Boxing Commission officials had concerns with Ahmady’s record and a ruling was made to pull him from the card. Doyle was added to Team Turkey as a Light-Heavyweight and lost a Fight of the Night match against Ryan Sturdy of Team World.
M-1 officials were so impressed with Doyle’s efforts on short notice that they have decided to bring him back at Middleweight to the Team USA East roster. Doyle, who previously fought in the ill-fated EliteXC, will face Richard Plug of Team Benelux on August 16. Doyle will be trying to help Team USA get the win in order to make the M-1 playoffs. If Doyle can help USA East secure the win, it is believed that he will earn the right to represent USA East in the semi-finals. There is little chance that Doyle will face his former Turkish teammates as they have not won a match and should not qualify for the playoffs.
