Tim Sylvia Pulled from Affliction III

Tim SylviaJens Pulver was correct when he stated that Tim Sylvia was “risking a lot” by fighting Ray Mercer in an interview recorded prior to the Sylvia/Mercer fight.  Now MMAFanhouse.com has learned that Tom Atencio has pulled Sylvia off of the Affliction III card due to Sylvia being knocked out by Mercer in 9 seconds.  Sylvia was to fight the Headhunter Paul Buentello at the event.

“It’s his second knockout in a row, and I don’t want to take a chance on anything,” Atencio said. “The fight is less than 60 days away.”

Atencio added that no one from the California State Athletic Commission contacted him about taking Sylvia off the card, but he felt it was in Sylvia’s best interest to take some time off to heal.

Atencio said that Paul Buentello will still fight on the card, and will probably face the winner of the Pedro Rizzo-Gilbert Yvel fight, which takes place at the June 27 “Ultimate Chaos” event in Biloxi, Miss.
