A Canadian Recap of TUF 9 US vs UK – Episode 11
DaMarques Johnson defeated Nick Osipczak in the first semi-final match and is now in the finals. Today’s episode promises two fights. Lets see who will fight in the Lightweight finale at the TUF 9 Finale.
Will it be:
- Andre Winner or Cameron Dollar
- Ross Pearson or Jason Dent
The show starts with Dollar complaining about sore ribs. Assistant US coach, Cyrille Diabate convinces Dollar that he will forget them in his fight and he should not let them stand in his way to the final.
Andre Winner – it turns out he sucks his thumb to get to sleep and to comfort himself. Very odd !
Andre Winner vs. Cameron Dollar
The two fighters tap gloves to start. Dollar starts swinging. Winner responds. It looks like these guys will stand. Dollar has a wild right hook. Winner lands a strong uppercut. Dollar clinches up but Winner backs out. Dollar gets Winner down but Andre walks up the cage. Dollar works a single but Winner defends. Dollar cann take him down. Full mount for Winner then a Triangle. Tap out. Andrew Winner is victorious.
Nice fight. Winner “is a great fighter and a great person” says Bisping. This makes it one UK fighter in the Welterweight final and one US fighter in the Lightweight final. Henderson thinks Dollar has a good future in MMA.
Ross Pearson vs Jason Dent is next to see who fights Andre Winner. Pearson’s shoulder popped out in training and Bisping must put it back in. No worries. Happens all the time. OUCH !
Dana said that Dent fought boring. Dent claims that he fought smart – “not a scratch on me.” Henderson wants Dent to perform better in the semi-final. Dent says that he can afford to “let it all hang out in this fight.”
Pearson is going to make this fight “messy”. He is going to give it all he gots. The two fighters are talking tough. Who will take this one?
Ross Pearson vs. Jason Dent
Dent starts off with a left high kick. Then Pearson rushed Dent and gets in a clinch. Dent looks lively and tries a flying knee in the clinch. Both fighters are trading knees. Dent signals to Pearson that he wants more and more is what Pearson gives him as he lands a flurry. Dent gets space and throws some jabs and leg kicks. Pearson responds with a flurry and they clinch again. Dent lands some shots and Pearson responds. Pearson is landing the harder shots and pushing Dent against the cage. A big left by Pearson and he pushes Dent against the cage again. The round ends with the two trading blows in the center of the cage. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 Pearson. Dent looks calm in the cage and this fight is still very much up for grabs.
Round 2 and Bisping tells Pearson to “not get reckless”. The two stand and feel each other out in the middle of the cage. Pearson lands the best shot with a nice head kick. Dent tries for a takedown but Pearson defends well. Dent lands a nice right and is pushing the action when Pearson takes him down. Pearson works for a more dominant position but Dent stands up. The two trade against the cage with Dent mixing up knees and punches. Hendo wants elbows but Dent does not use them. Dent shoot for a single but does not get it and ends up on his back. For the last thirty seconds, Pearson ground and pounds Dent. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Pearson.
Third round starts and by the Top MMA News score sheet, Dent needs to finish Pearson. Dent comes out swinging hard but Pearson lands a hard right and then takes Dent down against the cage. Pearson sits in Dent’s guard and lands forearms and elbows. Three minutes left and Dent is working to get off the bottom. Pearson rides Dent’s back and maintainsthe dominant position. Dent needs to drive his legs up but cannot get off the canvas. Pearson dominates the entire round from the top. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Pearson.
Top MMA News scores the fight 30-27 for Pearson. The judges agree. Dana White, who of course is wearing his Triumph United T Shirt once again, gives Dent props for a good fight and says he looked better in his loss than in his win.
The Lightweight final is decided – its all UK with Ross Pearson vs Andre Winner.
