CFC 2 Results – Doerksen Submits Babene
Canadian Fighting Championship fans were treated to some well-matched fights tonight at CFC 2. In the main event, Joe Doerksen had his hometown fans holding their breath as Greg Babene knocked him down in the first round. However, El Dirte came back in the second and submitted The Blade while on his back with a Triangle Choke.
Eric Perez and Dean Lewis stole the show at CFC 1 a couple months ago in a three round war. Perez came back tonight and fought a fast and furious battle with Dmitri Waardenburg. Waardenburg and Perez stood toe to toe with Perez getting the worst of it. However, Perez managed to take the fight to the ground and pulled off a Rear Naked Choke much to his coach Curtis Brigham’s delight. Perez is usually allergic to submission attempts and does not listen to his corner’s advice. However, “(Dmitri) was kicking my ass, so I had to take him down,” claimed Perez.
For the second straight CFC, fans were also treated to an awesome Muay Thai bout featuring Dave Zuniga. One has to wonder why kickboxing is dying in North America when fans love the standup in MMA much more than ground fighting. As in CFC 1, Zuniga looked tired, slow, and almost disinterested to start the bout as Alex Ricci was picking him apart with an effective jab and combinations. At the end of the second round, Zuniga showed up and even though he lost the second, the fight was his for the remainder. Zuniga showed tremendous heart and stamina and ended up knocking Ricci down in both the fourth and fifth rounds to defeat Alex Ricci for the second time in his career.
