Franklin to Train with Anderson Silva
If you can’t beat them, join them.
The Dayton Daily News is reporting that Rich Franklin will start training with Anderson Silva in preparation for his fight with Wanderlei Silva at UFC 99. Anderson Silva not only destroyed Rich Franklin to take his Middleweight title, but he also finished Franklin in their rematch in front of Franklin’s home town.
Anderson Silva is the former training partner of Wanderlei Silva at Brazil’s Chute Box camp, so Anderson does have some intimate knowledge of the Axe Murderer’s game. Wanderlei and Anderson apparantly have a running feud ever since Anderson left the Chute Box team. Recently, Anderson has gone on record stating that Wanderlei’s move to 185 “is pretentious” and “that Wanderlei will get hurt.”
Wanderlei Silva returned fire with his comments to Sherdog about the Spider,
“He is too cocky. I hope he can read this. … I never talked anything bad about him; I always respected him. He has always been my friend, always respected me, but now he came with that statement. I can’t understand that. I didn’t come down to 185 to face him. Actually I didn’t have that intention. … Changing divisions and fighting the champion would be too pretentious. I should have to have many fights before facing him, but concerning his last statements, I think the way is open and the war is declared.”
Regardless, Rich Franklin will be the benefactor of this war. After years of Anderson’s training with Wanderlei, there is no doubt that experience could help Franklin.
